Media framing has a significant role in demonstrating a certain perspective and eventually determining the context and intention of the news creator. While this research focused on the trends in framing news on cross-border political issues in Times of India and The Hindu from India and Dawn and The Nation from Pakistan from June 1st, 2014, to May 31st,2018. The news coverage of political issues pertaining to morality;exploitation of religious, moral, and ethical sentiments across the board,were studied to examine the political agenda-setting by the selected dailies.The data of 7236 were collected on census bases from the selected dailies and analyzed with respect to three main indicators of morality framing;religion, ethics, and moral values. The research concludes that both India and Pakistani media use the moral aspect of religion and ethics in framing political issues to set certain political agendas and deteriorated bilateral political efforts.
This research intends to study geostrategic and eco-political threats attached to China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) concerning Pakistani media coverage of Dasu attack in 2021. While 13 workers, including Chinese engineers were killed which resultantly resurfaced the security threat attached to this project. To analyze the media’s apprehension about the incident and framing trends, editorials of four leading newspapers, two English; Dawn and The Nation, two Urdu: Daily Jang and Daily Express, were selected with a duration from July 1, 2021 to November 30, 2022. Previous studies helped in determining to incorporate ‘threat frame’ to be analyzed in editorials which further lead to quantify its coverage frequency. The findings revealed that newspapers indicated towards threats of security, insurgencies, internal and external terrorism attacks with serious apprehension to be resolved. The findings also concluded that editorial manuscripts help in steering and determining geopolitical issues in constructive ways.
India and Pakistan share a border that enables them for an economic collaboration to minimize their mutual conflicts which are there since their partition. This study aims at identifying those economic obstacles which hinder their mutual economic cooperation. It further examines the framing trends through which media from both countries showcase each other's economic issues in certain ways. News headlines and lead paragraphs from two English dailies each from India and Pakistan, were analyzed. "Economic consequences" frame was identified among the selected data of 4086 news stories. The findings revealed that both countries blame about unstable bilateral trades, loss in import and exports deals, underdeveloped national and international businesses and economic deficits on each other. CPEC, political instability and terrorism were framed as major blaming claims by each side. The study further recommends professional news coverage with productive framing of issues than biased and based on certain framing.
This study aims to analyze the impact of religious narratives presented by Islamic scholars belonging to different sects on social media platforms. A large number of youngsters using social media platforms follow their favorite Islamic scholars on social media. Youth’s dependency for seeking religious knowledge through social media platforms has transformed from traditional religious learning to digital learning of religious knowledge. Different Islamic scholars' opinions on religious orders are being debated on social media, making it difficult for young people to decide which scholars to trust. Survey of 100 students, ages 18 to 30, from 6 leading universities will be given questionnaire. This study will incorporate cultivation theory to study respondents’ interpretation of religious messages by scholars using social media platforms. Participants were questioned about their knowledge of Islam, the impact of following an Islamic preacher had on their lives, their experience and perception about the digital preaching phenomenon, and whether or not those scholars helped them learn more about their respective religions believes and ideologies.
Social media has been a vibrant source of education for the masses during Covid-19. These virtual platforms, including Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, TikTok and WhatsApp, educated the general public of Pakistan with abundance of information regarding hygienic and healthy lifestyle. With the help of social media, people sorted to exercise at home, healthy dieting, proper medication and sanitizing from germs during the lockdown in pandemic situation which they were not consistently practiced previously. This research intends to explore general public’s dependency on social media for hygiene, and its impact on their lives during their lockdown. This quantitative research consists of survey method with a convenient sample of 200 residents of Lahore consisting of 4 different age brackets. The data predicts that people with high age took social media messages of exercise, diet, medication and sanitization more seriously and applied precautions aptly while respondents with low age bracket were less worried about diet but more concern about body exercises and sanitizing. Respondents from almost all the age brackets indicated towards their learning about medical understanding of a disease and its treatment. The study found out that people with less interaction with social media relied more on it with strong impact. It also indicates that social media has made people more conscious about healthy exercises, nutritious diet and authentic medication for disease free life. People got training to fight a global pandemic by utilizing social media adequately.
