Die sieh apomiktiseh fortpflanzenden Pflanzen sind seit langer Zei~ Gegenstand wissenschaftlieher Behandlung. Die Abweichungen yon der iibliehen Fortpflanzungsweise, welehe diese Pflanzen aufweisen, sind indessen dureh die Forsehung noch nieht restlos aufgekl/~r~. Die Aufkl/irung der Ursaehen, welche diesen Erseheinungen zugrunde liegen, ist yon besonderer theoretiseher Bedeutung. Es ist zu vermuten, dal~ eine Vertiefung unserer Kenntnisse fiber die Physiologie dieser Fortpflanzung ein Licht auf die Ursachen, welche die somatisehe Zelle zur Fortpflanzung anregen, werfen kSnnte. Damit w/ire in bezug auf die Fortpflanzung der Unterschied zwisehen somatisehen und Geschleehtszellen n~her gekennzeiehnet.~ber die Ursaehen, welehe die apomiktische Fortpflanzung bedingen, gehen die Meinungen auseinander. Es wird einerseits behaup~et, da~ die Hybridisation ein Stimulans zur Apomixis (ERnsT 1918) sei, andererseits werden abet innere genetische Faktoren dafiir verantwortlieh gedaebt (WlNKL]~R 1920).Die Gattung Hieraci~em ist ein gfinstiges Objekt zum Studium der Apomixis an Pflanzen. Die diesbezfigliehen Arbeiten OST]~NF]~LDs (1910) behandeln das Problem experimenteIl, und ROSENB]~G (1917, 1926--1927, 1927) ist haupts~ehlieh auf die eytologisehen Vorg~nge eingegangen. Die parallele Behandlung hat aber bei Composi~en groBe Sehwierigkei~en zu fiberwindeno Die Kastra~ion sowie die kfinstliche Bests ist bei den Hieraeien sehr umst~ndlieh, wesh~Ib Fehler durehaus nieht ausgesehlossen sind, die zu Irrtfimern ffihren kSnnten. Die grSBere Zahl eytologischer als experimenteller Un~ersuehungen an apomiktisehen Pflanzen ist ein Anzeiehen daffir, dal~ man vor allem in eyto!ogischer Richtung dem Problem n~hertreten kann. Wir hatten zuni~chst die Absieht, die Gattung Hieracium gleichzeitig experimen~ell und cytologiseh zu behandeln und legten grol~en Wert auch auf die experimentellen Untersuchungen. Das Vorhandensein yon hybriden Formen in der freien Natur ist ein klarer Beweis, dab einige Artender Gattung Potentilla sich geschlechtlieh fortpflanzen. Schon FOCKE (1881) bemerkte, dab eine kfinstliehe Kreuzung der Arten dieser Gattung sehr schwer erreiehbar sei und in den meisten F~llen fehlsehlage. Die yon JOttANSSON (1905) beobachtete Konstanz der Nachkommenschaft einiger in der Natur vorkommender hybrider Formen kann als Beweis fiir das Vorhandensein yon apomiktischer Fortpflanzung dieser Gattung gelten. Auf Grund experimenteller und eytologiseher Forschung hat M~3NTZlNG (1928M~3NTZlNG ( , 1931 reeht eindeutig und iiberzeugend den Standpunkt eingenommen, dal3 bei einigen Formen dieser Gattung Pseudogamie vorkommt.Von dem Wunsche beseelt, uns fiber die geschlechtliche Affinit/it der Arten dieser Gattung zu unterrichten, sind wir zu bemerkenswerten Ergebnissen in bezug auf ihre Fortpflanzungsverh/~ltnisse gelangt. Die Ergebnisse lauten zugunsten der Meinung, dab auBer geschlechtlicher Fortpflanzung aueh Apomixis vorkommen kSnne.Eine eingehende Priifung der verschiedenen Arten der apomiktischen Fortpf]anzung in Verbindung mit dem yon uns beobachteten Vorkommen bei Potentilla sol] nicht der Zweck dieser Mitteilung sein. Naeh den in der Literatur vorhandenen Angaben wird die apomiktische Fortpflanzung yon Untersehieden in karyologischen Erscheinungen bei der Bildung des Embryos~ekes und der Embryoentwicklung begleitet. W/~hrend einige Arten yon Alche~tilla (MURBECK 1901) und Chondrilla (PoDDUBNAJA-ARNOLDI 1933) sich parthenogenetiseh fortpflanzen, ist bei Hieracium (RosENBERG 1906(RosENBERG , 1917 und Alliu~ (HABERLAND 1923; MODILEVSKI 1930) Aposporie und Polyembryonie beobachtet worden. Im Hinb]ick auf die yon uns verwendete Terminologie wollen wir uns nicht mit der AnaLyse der verschiedenen Auffassungen fiber das Vorkommen yon Apomixis befassen (WI~KL~ 1908, 1920 EnNST 1918: Sc~A~" 1929 I~OSEIgBERG 1930). Doeh halten wir ffir notwendig, gleich yon vornberein zu bemerken, dab wir yon der Auffassung W~KLEns ausgegangen sind, wonach die apomiktische Fortpf]anzung alle F/~lle v(~n Zeugung einschliei]t, bei denen keine Verschmelzung yon zwei Kernen 0her die FortpflanzungsverhMtnisse der Gattung Potentilla.
