In seinem soeben erschienenen 2.Referat fiber ,,Wachstum und Altern" bespricht l~6ssle 11) den Mongolismus unter den ,,seltenen, fraglichen und Mischformen des Zwergwuehses". Er erwiigt, ob die Waehstums-stSrungen beim Mongolismus nicht am besten zu der yon ibm aufgestellten Gruppe des ,,dyscerebra]en Zwergwuchses" zu reehnen seien, kommt jedoeh zu keinem entseheidenden Urteil, denn ,,in mikroskopischer Hinsieht liegen bisher noch keine geniigend reichlichen Beschreibungen vor". ,,Alles zusammengenommen, wissen wir fiber die mongoloide WaehstumsstSrung weder anatomiseh noch i~tiologisch etwas Reehtes." Die wenigen Angaben fiber histologische Befunde an den Wachstumszonen der Knoehen beim Mongolismus stammen yon Kassowitz S), Lange 6), Siegert la), W ieland17), l~ernheim. Karrer l ), Peltason s) und R6ssle (1. e. S. 501). Sie betreffen vielfaeh lediglich die Rippen, daneben, wie unten noch im einzelnen zu erSrtern sein wird, auch einige lange RShrenknoehen und den Schi~del. Im klinischen Bilde sind nun die Veri~nderungen des Knochenwachstums sehr un-best~ndig, am h~ufigsten sind, wit besonders Siegert 13) hervorgehoben hat, Ver~nderungen an den Knoehen der Hand und des Ful3es. Es ist daher einigermaSen fiberraschend, da$ Untersuchungen dieser am regelm~l~igsten veri~nderten Knochen noch niemals mitgeteilt worden sind. Eine histologisehe Untersuchung der ttandknochen ist zwar aus naheliegenden Grfinden meist unmSglich, die Entnahme der Mittelful3knochen macht jedoeh nach meinen Erfahrungen geringere Schwierigkeiten yon seiten der AngehSrigen, als die Entfernung der meis$ zur Untersuehung bevorzugten Femur-und Tibiaepiphysen.
