In this work, we studied high performances active baluns. Results showed that optimization of a differential amplifier coupling admittance enhances significantly the even mode rejection and allows approaching the theoretical optimal admittance. It was confirmed by measurements. Moreover, a complementary optimization is needed to associate high CMRR and a good noise figure (input balun) or IP3 point (output balun). Using the wave cascading matrix formalism and the 8-term error model for modeling the imperfect measurement system vector network analyzer a new approach of the Thru-Reflect-Line (TRL) calibration technique is introduced and compared with the already existing TRL calibration technique. This new approach allows the utilization of arbitrary characteristic impedance lines as calibration elements, being very useful for high power device characterization which requires impedance transformers. The proposed algorithm differs from the classical TRL in the procedure used to refer the DUT Sparameters to the system impedance.Index Terms -Vector network analyzer (VNA), TRL calibration, characteristic impedance, wave cascading matrix.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
