Zero‐sequence voltage injected fault tolerant scheme for multiple open circuit faults in reduced switch count‐based MLDCL inverter

Abstract: Neutral shifting (NS) is a popular scheme to achieve fault tolerance operation (FTO) of multilevel inverters (MLIs) such as cascaded H-bridge (CHB). This fault tolerance scheme (FTS) can be realised with/without zero-sequence voltage injection. Among these, NS with zero-sequence injection FTS is relatively easier to implement. However, this scheme is not generalised for multiple open-circuit faults. Moreover, NS-FTS schemes are not directly applicable for fault tolerance of reduced switch count (RSC)-MLIs, as … Show more

“…However, their inability to synthesize output voltage for subtractive combination dc-sources limits their ability for trinary voltage ratios. The modular and redundant structure of MLDCL allows to tolerate multiple open-circuit (OC) faults on certain devices in level generator [141]. In [142], a modified MLDCL configuration is reported for grid integrated PV system by replacing by-pass switches in the level generator of MLDCL with diodes.…”

“…Interphase DC voltage balancing of cascaded H-bridge with star configuration is regulated by zero-sequence voltage injection or negative-sequence voltage/current injection [16,17]. STATCOM function of SST, negativesequence reactive power compensation, should be considered in the whole control.…”

“…Lu et al [15] proposed a zero-sequence voltage-based interphase voltage balancing method for STATCOM. However, this method has not taken into account the unbalanced factors in the grid side and its regulation ability is relatively weak [15][16][17], so it is limited in the cascaded SST.…”

“…Recently many researchers have been focusing on developing different MLI topologies including FT capability with the incorporation of minimum components [9–12]. The conventional cascaded H‐bridge MLI achieves FT operation by connecting relays at appropriate locations [13], but this topology needs more number of DC voltage sources, switching devices, and relays.…”
