Work related injury and its disparity across selected occupations in Ethiopia: systematic review and meta-analysis

Abstract: BackgroundGlobally, work related injury has been continued as a major public health problem. In Ethiopia there are few fragmented empirical studies particularly among workers of fast growing sectors and there is no a national representative study on work related injury. Therefore, this study aims to determine the magnitude of occupational injury and to identify its predictors among construction, textile and municipal solid waste management workers in Ethiopia.Objectiveto determine magnitude of Work related inj… Show more

“…Besides these problems, there is inadequate evidence on the prevalence of occupational-related injuries and determinant factors among municipal solid waste collectors (MSWC). 16 Occupational related studies are not adequate given that the possible exposure of workers to various work related hazards might exist. 14 This indicates that there is a strong need to generate evidence on the occupational injuries of solid waste collectors to know the extent of the problems in Harar town.…”

“…The present review's pooled prevalence rate of occupation-related injuries is much higher than that reported in different parts of the world. For instance, it is higher than the rate reported in Ethiopia [51][52], Korea [53], Mexico [54], Thailand [55], China [56], Turkey [57], Iran [58], and Malaysia [59]. Methodological variation in estimating the outcome of interest and the injury site (where the studies were done) may credit the potential explanations for the above interpretation.…”

“…Para pekerja ini menggunakan lebih sedikit alat pelindung diri, dan sebagian besar sampah kota tidak aman. Selain masalah ini, ada bukti yang tidak memadai prevalensi cedera terkait pekerjaan dan faktor penentu di antara pengumpul sampah (Gietaneh et al, 2020). Penanganan sampah menghadapkan pekerja pada kesehatan kerja dan risiko kecelakaan terkait bahan, emisinya, dan peralatan yang digunakan.…”
