Wireless Power Transfer System for Rotary Parts Telemetry of Gas Turbine Engine

Abstract: A novel wireless power transfer approach for the rotary parts telemetry of a gas turbine engine is proposed. The advantages of a wireless power transfer (WPT) system in the power supply for the rotary parts telemetry of a gas turbine engine are introduced. By simplifying the circuit of the inductively-coupled WPT system and developing its equivalent circuit model, the mathematical expressions of transfer efficiency and transfer power of the system are derived. A mutual inductance model between receiving and tr… Show more

“…Note that the inductances L P -M and L S -M that appear in the T-model coincide with L Pk and L Sk only if r = 1. Expressions (1), (2) and 3show that IPT systems, for which k is necessarily low, have non-negligible leakage inductances.…”

“…Considering that the mutual inductance M between square coils is (4/π) 2 times larger than between circular ones when the corresponding circumference is inscribed in the square [30], square rather than circular coils were chosen to design the coupling stage. The two coils, which were wound using Litz wire with a section of 6.28 mm 2 Mechanical stability was achieved by sandwiching each coil between two methacrylate plates. The air gap between the coils can be manually adjusted to the desired value by means of nylon screws placed at the corners of the holding plates.…”

“…However, it is well known that current power electronics technologies cannot satisfy such high-frequency switching [12]; therefore, in order to meet the capability of contemporary power switches to realize WPT, it is of great necessity to propose new methods for reducing the resonant frequency. Traditionally, a pair of coil resonators were applied to mid-and long-range wireless power transfer, but this technique has a poor performance in energy transfer efficiency [13]. To solve this problem, a new method of using coil arrays at both the transmitter and receiver sides was introduced employing the technique of mid-range strong magnetic resonant coupling [14].…”
