ResumoEste trabalho analisa o diferencial de salários no Brasil a partir da orientação sexual com base no Censo 2010. Não foram observados padrões sistemáticos nas estimações tanto em homens como em mulheres, mas diferenças estatisticamente significativas a favor dos casais do mesmo sexo. Destaca-se que os casais gays ganham, em média, 25,11% a mais que os casais heterossexuais, mantendo fixas suas condições de ocupação e ramos de atividade nas estimativas de MQO. No que tange às mulheres, casais de lésbicas ganham, em média, 13,84% a mais nos modelos de correção de seletividade amostral com controle de todas as características observadas.Palavras-chave: Novos Arranjos Familiares; Orientação Sexual; Censo; Diferencial de Salários. AbstractThis paper aims to analyze the wage gap according to sexual orientation by making use of the new methodology of family arrangement identification from the Brazilian Census of 2010. No systematic patterns were found on men and women regressions. However, statistically significant differences in favor of homosexuals were found on both models. It should be mentioned that gay couples earn on average 25.11% more than heterosexual couples, after controlling for occupational and the economic sector. Regarding women, lesbian couples earn on average 13.84% more than their heterosexual counterparts after controlling for the observed characteristics in a sample selection correction model.

“…One study reported that 81% of same sex couples resided in cities with populations over 700,000 compared with 52% of the U.S. population. 81 While peer networks and support groups are of importance in a positive sense for these populations, gay bars, clubs, and bathhouses may reinforce high-risk habits, including drug use, excessive use of alcohol, and dangerous sexual practices. HIV infection and hepatitis B and C are hyperendemic in this population, and stratify along racial and ethnic lines: in one study of men who have sex with men, HIV prevalence was 7% in whites, 14% in Latinos, and 32% among blacks.…”

Cities are now the major sites of human habitation worldwide, a trend that will continue for the foreseeable future, not only in the developed world but in developing countries. Urban residence impacts health and health prospects both positively and negatively through a complex mix of exposures and mechanisms. In addition, cities concentrate population subsets of various demographic, economic, and social characteristics, some with particular health risks and vulnerabilities. Looking at health through the urban lens allows increased understanding of disparate risks and emphasizes the essentiality of collaborative efforts in protecting and enhancing the health of populations, especially those living in cities.

This study provides an initial empirical analysis on identifying the general relationship between housing values and the spatial distribution of same-sex couples across the U.S. The paper uses the 1990 and 2000 census 5% PublicUse Microdata Samples and introduces the gay index into the social-amenitybased hedonic housing models. The results show signi…cant correlation between the spatial concentration of same-sex couples and housing values; furthermore, housing values are higher in a city where the proportion of same-sex couples was higher a decade ago, suggesting that same-sex couples make better communities.JEL Classi…cations: A14; J15; R14; R31
