Well‐Balanced Ambipolar Conjugated Polymers Featuring Mild Glass Transition Temperatures Toward High‐Performance Flexible Field‐Effect Transistors

Abstract: Conjugated polymers, which can be fabricated by simple processing techniques and possess excellent electrical performance, are key to the fabrication of flexible polymer field-effect transistors (PFETs) and integrated circuits. Herein, two ambipolar conjugated polymers based on (3E,7E)-3,7-bis(2-oxo-1H-pyrrolo[2,3-b]pyridin-3(2H)-ylidene)benzo[1,2-b:4,5-b']difuran-2,6(3H,7H)-dione and dithienylbenzothiadiazole units, namely PNBDOPV-DTBT and PNBDOPV-DTF2BT, are developed. Both copolymers possess almost planar c… Show more

“…Intermolecular interactions between donor and acceptor moieties play important roles in the dynamic property within D–A conjugated polymers, which has been thoroughly and extensively probed in electronics community. [ 38–41 ] Similar relationship was also discussed in our group's recent spin transport study concerning D–A conjugated polymers. [ 11,44 ] As we just mentioned, filtering‐like spin dynamics inside PNVT‐CN‐8 is the determining reason for the negative OSV signal.…”

“…Resulting huge success in organic field effect transistor (OFETs) and organic solar cells further demonstrated their potential in next‐generation electrical functional devices. [ 38–41 ] At the same time, spin transport performance of the D−A conjugated polymers was also under investigation and recently, acquired some inspiring results. [ 11,42–46 ] Nevertheless, the in‐depth understanding of spin transport performance of the D−A semiconducting polymer is inadequate.…”

“…In this regard, semiconducting conjugated polymers have been extensively investigated due to their merits of flexibility and solution processability, in addition to their high charge mobilities . Various conjugated polymers, in particular conjugated donor (D)–acceptor (A) polymers, have been explored for high‐performance semiconductors with high hole or electron mobilities or balanced hole/electron mobilities …”

“…For this reason, significant attention has been paid to the design and synthesis of various conjugated moieties and the covalent linkage of them into conjugated polymers . Conjugated frameworks, such as diketopyrrolopyrrole (DPP), isoindigo (IID), naphthalenediimide (NDI), and benzodifurandione‐based oligo( p ‐phenylene vinylene) (BDOPV), have been widely used as building blocks for semiconducting conjugated polymers. Meanwhile, our group and others have shown that side alkyl chains not only endow the polymers with solubilities in organic solvents and solution processability but also affect the interchain packing at the microscopic level, and thin film crystallinity and morphology at the macroscopic level, resulting in the modulation of charge transporting property of the polymer thin films.…”

“…Ambipolar conjugated polymers, which transport holes and electrons simultaneously, have great potential in simple and low cost fabrication of light emitting field‐effect transistors (FETs) and complementary‐like inverter through one‐step printing process . The most effective way to realize ambipolar polymers is copolymerization of an electron donor and acceptor unit (D–A) having the same charge transport capability.…”
