Air-dried aerial parts of wild Ormenis mixta were collected from five different regions of Morocco (Kenitra, Tamesna, Sidi allal lbahraoui, Settat and Benguerir) during 2011. The essential oil obtained separately from the leaves and flowers of O.mixta has been extracted by Clevenger apparatus and analyzed by gas chromatography (GC) and gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS). The flowers gave the most important yield in all the regions. The yield obtained varies greatly with a range of 0.83 to 1.67 % for flowers and 0,56 to 0,86 % for leaves. Significant differences were found in the chemical composition of leaves and flowers. The main components of flowers were camphor (14,4-29 %), trans-β-farnesene (8.3 %) and 2-tridecanone (21.5 %). For the leaves, the major components were trans-nerolidol (44.1 %), β-myrcene (12.4 %) and camphor (11-33 %). Cluster analysis of the essential oil composition from the five populations studied confirmed a major chemical variability.

The essential oil (EO) of Cota tinctoria var. tinctoria was analyzed using GC-FID / MS. A total of 51 compounds were determined from this taxon, accounting for 99.79% in hydrodistillation. Monoterpenes were the primary chemical class for the volatile organic compounds in the EO (36.1%, 13 compounds). Borneol (18.1%), camphor (14.9%), and β -pinene (11.3%) were the major components in the EO of C. tinctoria var. tinctoria . The antimicrobial activities of EO and n- hexane, acetonitrile, methanol, and water solvent extracts of the taxon were screened in vitro against ten microorganisms. The EO yielded the best activity (15 mm, 372.5 MIC, 59600 μg/μL) against Mycobacterium smegmatis . The acetonitrile extract was the most active against the Staphylococcus aureus and Bacillus cereus with 274 μg/mL MIC value. IC 50 values for the lipase enzyme inhibitory activity of EO and solvent extracts ( n- hexane, acetonitrile, methanol, and water) were found to be 59.80 ± 4.3285 μg/mL 68.28 ± 3.1215 μg/mL, 52.60 ± 3.7526 μg/mL, 48.73 ± 2.8265 μg/mL, and 99.50 ± 5.5678 μg/mL, respectively.

Air-dried aerial parts of wild Cladanthus mixtus were collected from two different regions of Morocco, Bouznika and Oujda, during 2011 and 2012. Forty individual plant samples were hydrodistilled using a Clevenger apparatus and the obtained essential oils were analyzed by GC and GC/MS. The yield obtained varies greatly with a range of 0.3 to 0.8%. The chemical composition of C. mixtus oils changes from one region to another. A total of 53 constituents were identified. To the best of our knowledge, two chemotypes were defined for the first time for this species in the regions studied. 2-Methyl-2- trans-butenyl methacrylate (32.8–35.2%) / ar-curcumene (13–14%) characterize the chemotypeof the C. mixtus plants from Bouznika, and trans-β-farnesene (35.5–50.3%) the chemotype from Oujda.
