Climate change impacts such as shrinking glaciers and decreasing snow cover are expected to cause changes in the water balance throughout the 21st century. New proglacial lakes in recently deglaciated areas could be used for mitigation measures such as hydropower production and adaptation measures to temporarily retain water and transfer it seasonally to compensate for seasonal water scarcity. Such multi-purpose reservoirs could counterbalance the water currently provided by glaciers and the seasonal snowpack. However, new dam projects often face various conflicts due to their impact on nature, biodiversity, and the landscape. This article presents the determinants for social acceptance of the first reservoir in a recently deglaciated landscape in the Swiss Alps. Three main determinants were identified: (1) the forthcoming popular vote on the national Swiss Energy Strategy 2050; (2) the participatory process, which contains a polycentric design; and (3) the project area, which does not yet have protected status. The three determinants facilitate social acceptance of the dam project, but lead to less attention on using the stored water for multiple services. These findings have implications on sustainable development, because dams in recently deglaciated areas support the transition to renewable energy sources, but transform a natural resource system into a hydroelectric landscape.

Considering that obtaining energy from solid waste is a source of clean energy generation, and that in turn this has been considered as a potential solution to the problem of global warming and greenhouse gas emissions. It is necessary to study the evolution of research results in this area. Therefore, this article presents a bibliometric analysis of the research related to the collection, treatment and use of biogas from solid waste and the contribution of Colombia, between 2007 and 2018. The platform used was Web of Science (WoS) for the search of the database, using the search equation "biogas + solid waste", obtaining 4138 results that were processed with the HistCite program. It was observed that the predominant countries in both document volume and Total Local Citation Score (TLCS) were China with a total of 15.3% of total production and a 1991 TLCS, followed by Germany with 13.9% and a TLCS of 2525 In the same way, the institution with the highest production and number of references was Tech University Denmark with a 1.9% share of the total production. The results showed an increasing trend in the production of documents related to the study of biogas and its use as an alternative 3874 Hegel Rincon Laurens et al. unconventional energy source. The presence of research from Latin American institutions is highlighted in this article and special mention is made of the evolution on the subject in Colombia showing how the University of Antioquia leads in the field of publications on the particular topic of biogas.

In the context of increasing energy demands in Vietnam, and as a result of the limited supply of domestic energy (oil/gas/coal reserves are exhausted), the potential for renewable energy sources in Vietnam is significant. Thus, building wind power plants in Vietnam is necessary. Access to this type of renewable energy not only contributes to society’s energy supply but also helps to save energy and reduce environmental pollution. Although some works have reviewed applications of the Multi-Criteria Decision Making (MCDM) model in wind power plant site selection, little research has focused on this problem in a fuzzy environment. This is the reason why a hybrid Fuzzy Analytic Hierarchy Process (FAHP) and The Technique for Order of Preference by Similarity to Ideal Solution (TOPSIS) are developed for wind power plant site selection in Vietnam. In the first stages of this research, an FAHP model is proposed for determining the weight of each potential location for building a wind power plant, based on qualitative and quantitative factors. A TOPSIS is applied for ranking all potential alternatives in the final stage. The authors collected data from seven locations, which have good conditions for investment in a wind power plant. The results indicate that Binh Thuan (Binh Thuan Province is located on coast of South Central Vietnam) is the best place for building a wind power plant in Vietnam. The contributions of this work proposed an MCDM approach under fuzzy environments for wind power plant location selection in Vietnam. This paper also resides in the evolution of a new approach that is flexible and practical for a decision-maker. This work also provides a useful guideline for wind power plant location selection in others countries.
