Vibrational Spectra and Rotational Isomerism in 2-Mercaptoethanol

Abstract: From the Raman and i.r. spectra of 2-mercaptoethanol in the liquid state and the temperature variation of the intensity of the Raman lines, it has been concluded that both the trans-and garrclleisomers are present in the liquid. A tentative analysis of the vibrational frequencies of the isomers has been presented. D'apres les spectres Raman et i.r. du mercapto-2 Cthanol a 1'Ctat liquide et aussi d'apres la variation en fonction de la temperature de I'intensite des raies du spectre Raman, on peut conclure que l… Show more

“…4, the infrared bands appear at 1009, 1044, 1065, 2856, and 2927 cm À1 . Table 1 compares these bands with the infrared frequencies of HSCH 2 CH 2 OH in liquid phase [7]. The 1044, 1065, 2856, and 2927 cm À1 agree with the absorp- Fig.…”

“…4, the spectra recorded from 115 K to 175 K are similar. Since the S-H breakage temperatures of C 2 H 5 SH on Cu (1 1 1) and (1 1 0) are far below 175 K, it is very likely that the S-H bond dissociates upon HSCH 2 CH 2 OH adsorption on Cu(1 0 0) at 115 K. Taken together with the intact moiety of SCH 2 CH 2 OH inferred from the infrared band frequencies and predominant C 2 H 4 desorption, it is proposed that -SCH 2 CH 2 OH is generated from HSCH 2 CH 2 OH dissociative adsorption on Cu(1 0 0) at 115 K. Stretching bands of S-H at $2550 cm À1 and O-H at $3475 cm À1 [7] are not observed in the 115 K spectra of Fig. 4.…”

“…This is supported by the peak due to C-N stretching vibration changing from 1251 to 1261 cm -1 and the N-H bending vibration peak in SPIONs@Au-Cysteamine at 806 cm -1 changing to a weak broad peak at 804 cm -1 after binding to LHRH. 21 - 22 The binding of cysteamine to Au shells and LHRH to cysteamine is also confirmed by XPS studies ( Figure S5). …”

“…DRIFT spectra showed the chemical changes on the surface of Pb foils (Figure ). The peak located at 667 cm −1 can be assigned to C─S stretching vibration from the organic matter in the PDA medium . Its weakened intensity during incubation suggested the fungal consumption of the medium.…”
