RESUMOA produção de hortaliças é uma atividade intensiva quanto à utilização dos recursos disponíveis, como solo, água e nutrientes exigindo elevado investimento por unidade de área explorada. No caso da pequena propriedade agrícola, normalmente caracterizada pela exploração de cunho familiar, associa-se a esses a restrição de área física para os cultivos, onde para situações dessa natureza, a consorciação de culturas torna-se uma opção interessante. Diante disso, objetivou-se com este trabalho verificar a viabilidade agroeconômica do consórcio do taro com brócolis, couve-chinesa, berinjela, jiló, pimentão e maxixe. O experimento foi conduzido na Horta do Departamento de Fitotecnia da Universidade Federal de Viçosa. Foi constituído de 13 tratamentos, resultantes dos cultivos consorciados do taro com brócolis, couve-chinesa, berinjela, jiló, pimentão e maxixe, assim como suas respectivas monoculturas. O delineamento experimental foi o de blocos casualizados, com quatro repetições. As colheitas das hortaliças foram semanais, iniciadas cerca de 60 dias após o transplante e realizadas por, aproximadamente, 120 dias, com exceção da couve-chinesa cuja colheita foi realizada em uma única vez. Avaliaram-se as características produtivas das culturas e os indicadores agroeconômicos para medir a eficiência dos sistemas consorciados. Os dados foram submetidos à análise de variância e as médias foram comparadas por meio dos testes de Tukey e Dunnett para os dados de produtividade do taro, teste F para os contrastes realizados nas culturas consorciadas e o critério de agrupamento de médias Scott-Knott, para os dados de viabilidade econômica. Todos os consórcios foram eficientes, pois apresentaram UET acima da unidade e elevada renda líquida e vantagem monetária, sendo o consórcio tarojiló o menos vantajoso economicamente quando comparado aos demais. The possibility of increasing vegetable production per unit area is one of the advantages of the intercropping system. However, there is a lack of information about the effect of climatic factors and the management of different species on the viability of this production system. To this end, four experiments were carried out to evaluate the yield of intercropped lettuce and cucumber as a function of cropping season, cucumber population density, and lettuce transplanting time. Each experiment was conducted in a randomized block design with nine treatments arranged in a 2 x 4 + 1 factorial scheme, corresponding to two cropping systems (intercropping and monoculture), four transplanting times of 'Lucy Brown' lettuce (0, 10, 20, and 30 days after cucumber transplanting), and 'Hokushin' cucumber monoculture. The experiments were carried out in two seasons (August to November and February to May) and with two cucumber population densities (1.1 and 2.2 plants m-2). Total and commercial cucumber yields were not influenced by the presence of lettuce. However, regardless of cropping season, the presence of cucumber affected lettuce yield, with later transplanting corresponding to greater negative impact. Lettuce intercropped with cucumber at a density of 2.2 plants m-2 and grown from February to May did not reach commercial quality. The greatest efficiency of lettuce and cucumber intercropping was obtained by transplanting the two species on the same day in August, with cucumber at a density of 1.1 plants m-2.

Intercropping is a management strategy for the sustainability of agricultural systems, and is suitable for the production of vegetables. Kale is predominantly grown singly, but field observations have indicated that this crop has satisfactory productive potential when grown in intercrops with other vegetables. The objective of this work was to evaluate the agronomic performance and biological efficiency of kale plants intercropped with spice species. The experiment was carried out at the Didactic Horta of the Federal University of Ceará, Fortaleza, state of Ceará, Brazil. The experiment was conducted in a randomized block design with five replications. The treatments consisted of kale grown singly and intercropped with spice species (chives, coriander, basil, and parsley) and these spice species grown singly. The fresh and dry weights of the kale leaves, and the shoot of the spice species were evaluated. The biological efficiency was evaluated by the land use efficiency index (LUE), relative contribution of the kale crop to the LUE, area time equivalent ratio, and system productivity index. The intercropping of kale with parsley resulted in the highest fresh, and dry weights of kale leaves, showing the highest agronomic efficiency.
