Verrucous Hemangioma Treated with Electrocautery

Abstract: Verrucous hemangioma is a rare vascular malformation consisting of a proliferation of dilated blood vessels of different sizes that occupy the dermis and hypodermis. The epidermis of the affected area shows a strong proliferative reaction that presents as a warty appearance. Here, we report the case of a 17-year-old male who presented with an asymptomatic warty growth above the lateral malleolus on the right leg, which healed after electrocautery.

“…Various therapeutic options such as cryotherapy, ultrasonography, electrocautery, NdYAG laser for plaques, and pulsed dye laser for patches can be considered when excision is not possible [11][12][13][14]. Our case was surgically excised and showed no recurrence at 6 months, indicating that the surgery may be a good choice for treatment of a localized linear plaque.…”

“…Due to the deeper vascular infiltration, the recurrence rate of VH is 33%, especially when the lesions are larger than 2 cm in diameter [ 3 ]. Various other options that have been tried with limited results include ultrasound, cryosurgery and electrocautery, especially for smaller lesions [ 4 , 18 , 19 ]. Recently, a combination of CO2 and dual pulsed dye laser Nd:YAG has been reported to provide satisfactory response in some cases [ 20 ].…”
