Conflict of interests: nothing to declare. translated to Brazilian Portuguese, the back-translation into English was done. The items of the translated version were compared with the original instrument and the discrepancies were modified by consensus of a committee composed of five speech language pathologists. The Evaluation of the Ability to Sing Easily for Brazil (EASE-BR) has 22 questions with four alternatives: "no," "mildly," "moderately," and "extremely."The score is obtained by the simple sum of all answers. The three positive items (6, 12, and 21) require reverse score. For cultural equivalence, the EASE-BR was applied with 41 Brazilian singers, with an extra item in the answer key -"not applicable." The aim of this extra key was to identify issues that might not have been understood or were not appropriate for the target population and the Brazilian culture. Results: Of the 32 singers, 5 who were initially evaluated had difficulties to answer 3 of the 22 questions. Therefore, the adaptation of those sentences was necessary. Afterward, the modified EASE-BR was applied to nine singers, and no more cultural and/or conceptual barriers were found. Conclusion: Cultural equivalence was observed between EASE and its translated version to the Brazilian Portuguese, the EASE-BR. Validation of the EASE for Brazilian Portuguese is in progress. RESUMO Objetivo: Realizar a equivalência cultural da versão brasileira do protocolo Evaluation of the Ability to Sing Easily(EASE), por meio de sua adaptação cultural e linguística. Métodos: Após tradução do EASE para o Português brasileiro e retrotradução para o Inglês, realizou-se a comparação dos itens com o instrumento original, sendo as discrepâncias existentes modificadas por consenso por um comitê composto por cinco fonoaudiólogos, chegandose ao Evaluation of the Ability to Sing Easily para o Brasil (EASE-BR), com 22 questões e quatro alternativas na chave de resposta: "não", "um pouco", "moderadamente" e "muito". A pontuação é a soma simples de todas as respostas, sendo que os três itens com aspectos positivos (6, 12 e 21) exigem pontuação reversa. Para a equivalência cultural, o EASE-BR foi aplicado em um total de 41 cantores brasileiros, com acréscimo da opção "não aplicável" na chave de respostas, para identificação de questões não compreendidas ou não apropriadas para a população-alvo e a cultura brasileira.

Metod rada: U studiju je bilo uključeno 20 ispitanika sa dijagnostikovanim čvorićima na glasnicama od strane otorinolaringologa. Starost ispitanika kretala se od 23 do 56 godina. Sprovedena je subjektivna procena glasa instrumentom Voice Handicap Index (VHI), koji obuhvata tri područja: funkcionalno, emocionalno i fizičko. Ovaj instrument je u mogućnosti da pokaže efikasnost vokalne terapije i oceni težinu glasovnog problema koji doživljava sam pacijent. Rezultati: Pre vokalne terapije kod ispitanika je preovladavao težak glasovni poremećaj, a posle vokalne terapije došlo je do poboljšanja glasa kod svih ispitanika. Statistička značajnost je bila ispod granične vrednosti od 0,05 na osnovu čega se može zaključiti da je došlo da statistički značajne promene između dva merenja. Zaključak: Rezultati ovog istraživanja su pokazali da je vokalna terapija pokazala uspeh kod ispitanika sa čvorićima na glasnicama, čime je došlo do poboljšanja kvaliteta njihovog života. Ključne reči: vokalni čvorići, promuklost, vokalna terapija, kvalitet života, Voice Handicap Index (VHI). Summary:Objective: To determine the significance of the vocal therapy on life quality improvement in patients with vocal fold nodules. Methods: The study included 20 patients diagnosed with nodules on the vocal cords by otolaryngologists. The age of the respondents ranged from 23 to 56. We performed a subjective assessment of voice with the Voice Handicap Index (VHI) instrument, which encompassed three areas: functional, emotional and physical. This instrument was able to demonstrate the efficacy of local therapy and evaluate the weight of voice problems experienced by the patient. Results: Before the vocal therapy, heavy voice disorder had prevailed in patients, and after the vocal therapy the improvement of voice occurred in all respondents. The statistical significance was below the threshold of 0.05 on the basis of which it can be concluded that there is no statistically significant change between the two measurements. Conclusion: The results of the study showed that the vocal therapy has shown success in patients with vocal fold nodules, which led to their life quality improvement. Translation and transcultural adaptation of the VHI-10 questionnaire: the VHI-10lb

Subjective assessment tools are essential in voice disorders evaluation. The Voice Handicap Index-30 (VHI-30) and the Voice Handicap Index-10 (VHI-10) are the most studied and used questionnaires to assess the severity of the handicap caused by hoarseness on the quality of life of dysphonic patients and, therefore, guiding physician's therapeutic decision making. The aim of our study is to validate a Lebanese version of the VHI-10. The Lebanese Arabic version of the VHI-10 (VHI-10lb) was obtained after a forward translation towards Lebanese Arabic then a back-translation towards English and a pilot study. It was then submitted to 154 participants with clinical dysphonia and 100 healthy subjects. The questionnaire's intrinsic parameters such as the reliability, the reproducibility, the validity, the sensitivity, and the study of the correlation between each item and the total score were measured for the validation of the questionnaire. The results show a high internal consistency of the VHI-10lb (Cronbach's α 0.915) and an intra-class correlation coefficient of 0.963 in the reliability analysis (p < 0.001). The VHI-10lb is also found to be clinically valid (p < 0.001) and sensitive to the improvement of the quality of life after treatment of dysphonic patients (p < 0.001). The Lebanese version of the VHI-10, the VHI-10lb, can be used to self-assess the severity of the impact of dysphonia on the quality of life of the affected patients. This study allows to add the VHI-10lb to the voice evaluation tools adapted to the Lebanese population.
