Background: The quality of medical services for a child and their parents are tantamount to a sense of satisfaction with care. Purpose: The assessment of determinants of parental satisfaction with nursing care in paediatric wards. Methods: The study covered 336 parents of children hospitalised in paediatric departments and was based on the “EMPHATIC” questionnaire, standardized and adapted to Polish conditions. Results: The mean score of the overall parental satisfaction was high, amounting to 4.19 points. The lower level of satisfaction with nursing care was reported in parents of children under the age of 6 years, admitted in an emergency mode with a diagnosed post-trauma condition and those with higher education. The duration of hospitalisation, sex and age of parents did not have an influence on the satisfaction with care. Conclusions: The age of the child, admission mode and education of respondents are determinants of parental satisfaction with nursing care.

StreszczenieWstęp: Profesjonalizm to realizowanie usług z wykorzystaniem wiedzy i umiejętności oraz odpowiedzialność za podejmowane działania. Stanowi ważny element poddawany ocenie w pomiarze jakości opieki. Opinie pacjentów i ich rodzin (mierzone poziomem satysfakcji) dotyczące profesjonalizmu pracowników medycznych pozwalają na doskonalenie jakości świadczeń zdrowotnych. Materiał i metody: Badaniem objęto 120 rodziców/opiekunów dzieci hospitalizowanych na oddziale pediatrii. Metodą badawczą był sondaż diagnostyczny, a narzędziem badawczym -"Standaryzowany kwestionariusz oceny poziomu zadowolenia rodziców/opiekunów z opieki pielęgniarskiej" autorstwa Latoura i wsp., który przez autorki niniejszej publikacji został dostosowany do warunków krajowego szpitalnictwa pediatrycznego i poddany walidacji. Do analizy materiału prezentowanego w niniejszej pracy wybrano jedną z części narzędzia dotyczącą profesjonalizmu opieki pielęgniarskiej. W analizie statystycznej zastosowano testy: Manna-Whitneya oraz Kruskala-Wallisa. Jako poziom istotności statystycznej przyjęto p ≤ 0,05. Dobór respondentów był losowy. Rodzice/opiekunowie otrzymywali narzędzie dzień przed planowanym wypisem. Wyniki: Ogólny wskaźnik oceny profesjonalizmu opieki pielęgniar-skiej przez rodziców/opiekunów był wysoki i wyniósł 4,3. Wyższą satysfakcję rodzice/opiekunowie dzieci wyrazili w przypadku szacunku okazywanego pacjentom przez pielęgniarki, a niższa dotyczyła przedstawiania się pielęgniarek pacjentom (4,7 vs 3,2). Wysoki poziom zadowolenia rodziców/opiekunów odnosi się do możliwości ich współpracy z zespołem terapeutycznym (4,6), organizacji pracy pielęgniarek (4,6) oraz jakości opieki pielęgniarskiej (4,6). Wnioski: Rodzice/opiekunowie wyrazili zadowolenie z profesjonalizmu opieki pielęgniarskiej. Zmiennymi istotnie różnicującymi opinie rodziców/opiekunów na temat wybranych kryteriów szczegó-łowych związanych z profesjonalizmem opieki pielęgniarskiej były: wykształcenie badanych oraz częstość i przyczyna hospitalizacji dzieci. Czas hospitalizacji i wiek dzieci oraz miejsce zamieszkania rodziców/opiekunów nie korelowały z poziomem satysfakcji rodziców z profesjonalizmu opieki pielęgniarskiej. Med. Instruments to evaluate hospitalised children parents’ satisfaction with nursing care: a scoping review

AimTo identify instruments that allow the evaluation of parent’s satisfaction regarding nursing care during their child hospitalisation.MethodsA review was performed using Preferred Reporting Items for Scoping Reviews. The study was prospectively registered in Open Science Framework. Research was carried out on EBSCOhost, PubMed, SciELO, Web of Science and ScienceDirect platforms as well as grey literature. Additionally, the references of selected articles were also examined.ResultsA sample of 65 articles allowed the identifications of 38 distinctive instruments to evaluate parents’ satisfaction in different hospital settings. Most studies were applied in paediatric wards (n=28), followed by neonatal intensive care units (n=21), paediatric intensive care units (n=9) and emergency departments (n=7). Sample size ranged from 13 to 3354 and 3 studies used mixed methods, 20 were methodological studies of instruments construction or validation and 43 were quantitative studies. 21 different instruments previously existent were found. In 3 studies, adapted instruments were used and, in 14 studies, structured instruments were purposively designed for the study. Instruments had between 1 and 13 domains and total number of items ranged between 13 and 92. Most studies assessed overall satisfaction (n=53) and instrument reliability (n=49) and/or validity (n=37).ConclusionMost instruments consider nursing care as a domain of satisfaction. Only two instruments focused specifically on nursing care. In most of the studies, there was a concern to evaluate instruments psychometric properties. This review clearly shows that there is still a gap in the literature on the range of aspects that influence satisfaction and a lack of consensus on ideal conditions for instrument use and application.
