“…The disease affects an estimated 1-4% worldwide and is considered one of the most bur-densome skin conditions [4,5]. Remarkably, diagnosis delay in HS patients remains a global problem [6], so recently a visual-aided questionnaire for self-assessment was proposed [7]. The severe symptoms as well as known complications which tend to limit the range of motion and skin flexibility in lesion areas [2,3] cause considerable physical, social, and emotional distress [8,9].…”

“…The prevalence of HS is 1–4% and commonly affects young adult females, with variation likely due to the use of different methods including healthcare records, clinical databases, and self‐questionnaires . More recently, visual‐aided questionnaires have been developed and also used for self‐assessment …”

“…3,4 More recently, visual-aided questionnaires have been developed and also used for self-assessment. 5 Hidradenitis suppurativa is associated with a number of disorders, including those of endocrine, cardiovascular, and autoimmune etiology. Although a quantitative score for the comorbidity burden of HS is still not established, the Charlson Comorbidity Index 6 and newly proposed Autoinflammatory Disease Damage Index (ADDI) have been used.…”

“…Psychiatric comorbidity of HS patients is also often overlooked, and concurrent schizophrenia may involve a general undertreatment of medical conditions typically affecting this population . As medical management is shifting towards the development of assessments aimed at providing early detection and intervention, the results of the current study emphasize the importance of integrating a broader assessment to detect and account for both dermatological and psychological factors that might affect medical care. This assessment is especially crucial when considering the higher prevalence of attempted suicide in both schizophrenia and HS patients, as well as the importance of early treatment in both HS and schizophrenia, which might dramatically affect treatment options and outcomes.…”
