-Two experiments were carried out to determine the nutritional value and verify piglets' performance in the nursery phase fed with diets containing common corn (CC), extruded common corn (ECC), high-lysine corn (HLC), extruded high-lysine corn (EHLC), high-oil corn (HOC) and extruded high-oil corn (EHOC). In the total digestibility trial 14 barrows averaging 6.49 ± 0.16 kg initial body weight were allotted in metabolism cages, distributed in a randomized design with seven diets, six replicates, and one piglet per experimental unit. The values of digestible energy (DE), as well as metabolizable energy (ME) as-fed basis for CC, ECC, HLC, EHLC, HOC and EHOC were: 3,428 and 3,327 kcal/kg; 3,439 and 3,355 kcal/kg; 3,533 and 3,414 kcal/kg; 3,515 and 3,427 kcal/kg; 3,483 and 3,377 kcal/kg; 3,585 and 3,482 kcal/kg, respectively. In the performance experiment, 84 piglets, weaned at 21 days old, initial live weight of 6.06 ± 0.54 kg were used. Animals were allotted in a completely randomized design in a 3 × 2 factorial arrangement, using three types of corn (CC, HLC and HOC), two forms of processing (processed or not by extrusion), seven replicates and two piglets per experimental unit. Six diets containing CC, ECC, HLC, EHLC, HOC and EHOC were studied. There were no advantages in the digestibility and performance by extruding the types of corn with different nutritional profiles, for their use in commercial diets for piglets. The results of the two experiments emphasize the importance of segregating the types of corn, extruded or not, in their real chemical and energetic composition as well as the values of true digestible amino acids for the formulation of piglet diets in the nursery phase.

Physical form effect of the pre-starter diet supplied during the post-weaning period from 21 to 41 days of age on diet digestibility and animal performance in terms of zootechnical performances of light-weight (5.82kg) and heavy-weight weaning piglets (6.32kg) was evaluated, as well as the residual effects of the treatments until slaughter. Forty-eight female pigs at 21 days of age were evaluated. The experimental design was completely randomized in a 2x2 factorial scheme (meal/pelleted diet vs. light-weight/heavy-weight piglets), with six replicates for the nursery phase and 12 replicates for the growing-finishing phases. Animals received the experimental diet from 21 to 41 days of age. Data were analyzed with ANOVA, setting the significance in 5%. Feeding with the pelleted diet resulted in a 39% greater daily weight gain and a 28% greater feed conversion rate for piglets from weaning to 40 days of age. Pelleting also resulted in a decrease in feed wastage during the first week after weaning (9.15% for meal diet vs. 1.68% for pelleted diet) and; consequently, the results showed an increase in feed consumption. Digestible energy of the pelleted diet (3,626kcal kg-1) was greater than that of the meal diet (3,424kcal kg-1). The physical form improved the performance of weaning pigs and the digestibility of the pre-starter diet, but there wasn't residual effect of the physical form and the weight of a piglet at weaning on live weight at slaughter.

ResumoEste trabalho teve como objetivo avaliar o efeito da adição de um acidificante em dietas sobre a digestibilidade de nutrientes em suínos em crescimento. Foram utilizados 18 suínos, com peso médio inicial de 53,55 kg, e os tratamentos constituíam de dieta convencional (milho e farelo de soja) e alternativa (milho pré-cozido e soja integral desativada), acrescidas de um acidificante nos níveis 0%, 0,1% e 0,2%. Os animais ficaram alojados em três baias coletivas, sendo que em cada arraçoamento eram colocados em boxes individuais. O método de coleta de fezes foi realizado diretamente na ampola retal e 0,34% de Cr2O3 foi utilizado como indicador. O delineamento experimental utilizado foi de blocos ao acaso, em arranjo fatorial 2 x 3 (dietas x níveis de acidificante). A dieta alternativa foi pior para a digestibilidade da PB (P<0,03) e resíduo mineral (P<0,001), porém melhorou a digestibilidade de variáveis da fibra (FB, P<0,001; e FDA, P<0,001). A adição de 0,2% do acidificante às dietas melhorou a digestibilidade do Ca (P<0,01). Houve interação entre acidificante e dieta para os coeficientes de digestibilidade da MS (P<0,01) e FDN (P<0,02). A dieta alternativa apresentou coeficiente de digestibilidade da MS superior à convencional quando adicionados 0,1% do acidificante, sendo respectivamente, 86,02% e 84,51% (P<0,05). Nos resultados de digestibilidade da FDN, a dieta alternativa apresentou valor superior à convencional no nível 0% ou 0,1% do acidificante. Para a dieta alternativa com 0,2% foram obtidos valores maiores que nos níveis 0 ou 0,1% (P<0,05). Palavras-chave: Aditivos; milho pré-cozido; óxido de cromo; soja desativada. AbstractThe aim of the experiment was to evaluate the effect of the addition of acidifiers to diets on the digestibility of growing pigs. We used 18 pigs with an average initial weight of 53.55 kg. The treatments consisted of conventional diet (corn and soybean meal) and alternative diet (pre-cooked corn and inactive soybean), with the addition of an acidifier at the levels of 0%, 0.1%, and 0.2%.
