Uso excessivo do cateter vesical em pacientes internados em enfermarias de hospital universitário

Abstract: This cohort study included 254 adult patients who used a urinary catheter (UC) during their hospitalization in a university hospital ward. “…Studies emphasized, alarmingly, the existence of many procedures that are performed with incorrect indications, or neglect the registration statement in the medical record. 9 A research has shown that in 23.3% of patients who used the urinary catheterization of delay, the procedure was not prescribed in the medical record, reaching 46% among clinical patients. 9 It is emphasized that this indicator is a very important marker of failure in the process work, which takes place in a manner not yet systematized in terms of documentation, leading to a potential risk of ignorance to the team that will continue to care, since it is often a different professional providing the first emergency care, a sector where are performed 38% of bladder catheterizations.…”

Researchers suggest that the systematic participation of trained nurses to perform the technique properly and verify the indications of bladder catheter of delay, to inquire the doctor daily about the need for its permanence is essential to reduce UTI.…”

“…Através de estudos científicos, muitas modificações se fizeram necessárias na prática da assistência aos pacientes com cateter urinário, para diminuir as taxas de ITU. Medidas especialmente dirigida a técnica de inserção, ao sistema coletor, ao tipo de cateter, aos cuidados diários (7) . O CVD é considerado um procedimento complexo e que necessita da aplicação de conhecimentos cientí-ficos ao executar.…”

“…As a result, the bladder catheter was considered inadequate in relation to its indication and in relation to the duration of use in clinical patients, in 29% and 47% of the cases, respectively, as well as English/Portuguese J Nurs UFPE on line., Recife, 11 (12):4817-25, Dec., 2017 4823 ISSN: 1981-8963 ISSN: 1981-8963 https://doi.org/10.5205/1981-8963-v11i12a15209p4817-4825-2017 an increase in hospitalization time in three days. 18 In another study conducted in a university hospital with the objective of evaluating the conduct of nurses related to the bladder catheterization procedure, it was observed that 21.2% of the interviewees considered that errors in catheter manipulation helped to increase the occurrence of infection. 19 Regarding the criteria for urinary catheter use, 43.9% scored one or two correct questions and 14.6% did not respond to the question.…”
