Use tillage system and botanical herbicide of cashew nut shell extract on losses nutrient and organic matter in the sloping land

The present study was carried out to analyze bioactive compounds and their their antifeedant activityity in the cashew nut (Anacardiaceae) shell extract against Bemisia tabaci. Hexane was used as solvent in the extraction. The result showed that shell extract of total phenolics, flavonoids and tannins were 63.11 mg gallic acid equivalents g-1; 1.79 mg quercetin equivalents g-1; and 16.04 mg gallic acid equivalents g-1, respectively. Gas chromatography mass spectrometry (GC-MS) analyses showed that anacardic acid has the highest concentration (76.93 %) in the extract. The viscous extract of cashew nut at concentration of 0.75 % was able to inhibit the landing and provided an active role as anti-oviposition on B. tabaci. There were significantly fewer landings than after use of insecticide with imidacloprid active compound at concentration of 0.50 %, after 72 h of application. Mortalities of B. tabaci caused by extracts with concentration of 1.50 % and 3.00 % were not significantly different after 24 and 48 h of application. At concentration of 3.00 % there was no phytotoxic effect. The highest mortality of B. tabaci was obtained at concentration of 6.00 %. However, concentration of 6 % of extract caused phytotoxic symptoms on soybean leaves.

Agronomic performance of F7 soybean lines resistant to Soybean mosaic virus in the dryland area

In Indonesia, soybean cultivation is generally planted in paddy fields after the rice harvest. However, expanding soybean cultivation is needed to make optimal dry land in the future. This study aims to obtain F7 soybean lines resistant to Soybean mosaic virus (SMV) adaptive in the dry land. In the dry land planted eleven soybean breeding lines resistant to SMV and two varieties as control. Ten days after planting (DAP), soybean plants were inoculated with SMV. The experiment was conducted in the randomized complete block design with four replicates within each area. These results showed that the GK/PI200.485-7-17 line was the most superior soybean line and the potency to develop in the dryland area because it had the highest number of branches per plant, number of filled pods per plant, and 100-seed weight. The tested line showed the highest seed yields of 2.40 t/ha, and 2.72 t/ha, in Girisubo and Sidowayah Districts, respectively. This line did not indicate any serological relationship to SMV in both locations.

Combined effect of corn in the barrier crop and plant extracts against Cowpea mild mottle virus infecting soybean [Glycine max (L.) Merr.] in the field

Cowpea mild mottle virus (CpMMV) is one of the problems that can decrease soybean production. The research was conducted on the combined effects of corn in the barrier crop with plant extracts against CpMMV infecting soybean in the field. The field data was conducted using a Completely Randomized Design. The mean of disease incidence and disease severity is measured from total plants in each replicate plot on each treatment. Planting one or two of corn lines were grown at the edge four weeks before planting soybeans. Cashew nut shell (CNS), pagoda leaf, and rhizome of ginger extracts were applied using the sprayer and applied at 24 h before virus acquisition and transmission by whiteflies. The result showed that the virus incubation period ranged from 9−38 days after transmission longer than the untreated control. Planting two corn lines at the edge with CNS extract as bioactivator on soybean was the most extended incubation period of the virus and the lowest absorbance value DAS-ELISA of 0.20. There was a 73.11 % increase in the relative inhibition level of the virus. Planting corn at the edge with CNS extract proved to be more effective than soybean monoculture with CNS extract. However, soybean monoculture with CNS extract provides a better relative inhibition level of the virus (64.32 %) than planting two rows of corn on the edge combined with ginger of rhizome extract and planting two rows of corn on the edge with pagoda leaf extract as bioactivator on a soybean plant.
