Use of rhinomanometry in common rhinologic disorders

Abstract: Rhinomanometry is a functional test of nasal aerodynamics that measures transnasal airflow and the pressure gradient allowing nasal resistance to be calculated from these data. Three methods of rhinomanometry that are currently in use are anterior rhinomanometry, posterior (peroral) rhinomanometry and postnasal (pernasal) rhinomanometry. The usefulness of this method has increased owing to the development of technology and use of microcomputers connected to the measuring devices. Rhinomanometry can be used for… Show more

“…Very few studies have considered the development of upper airway morphology. 3 Clinical techniques for evaluating nasal pathology include visual analog scales, 4 rhinostereometry, 5 video-endoscopy, 6 rhinomanometry, 7 and acoustic rhinometry. 8 A combination of the above techniques is usually employed in practice, based on the specific performance of each technique.…”

“…Пациента просят отметить на градуированной линии точку, которая соответствует степени выраженности того или иного фактора. Зачастую в качестве делений используются цифры, или же понятия, например, "сильная боль", "боли нет" [9]. Полученные резуль-таты заносятся в лист наблюдений лечащим врачом или любым другим членом медперсонала.…”

“…The technician recorded the nasal volume from the first 6 cm (NV 6 ) and MCA between 0 and 2.2 (MCA 1 ) and between 2.2 and 5.5 cm (MCA 2 ). Minimum NV 6 and MCA values on both sides (NV 6-Min and MCA Min ) and for the entire nasal cavity (NV 6-T and MCA T ) were analysed.…”

“…In recent years, four-phase rhinomanometry has been applied clinically. It measures intranasal pressure, flow, and time variables during the inspiratory and expiratory breathing cycle [6]. Acoustic rhinometry detects acoustic signals reflected from the wall of the nasal cavity and calculates the minimum cross-sectional area (MCA) and nasal volume (NV) of the nose [7].…”
