Traditional technology diffusion literature focuses on the diffusion of technologies within the extant manufacturing paradigm. By contrast, few studies have explored the determinants and mechanisms of technology diffusion when moving across manufacturing paradigms. In this article, therefore, we aim to explore the intrinsic and institutional factors, as well as the impact mechanism on technology diffusion in the context of manufacturing paradigm shift. Specifically, this article investigates the role of the government in this scenario. A firm-level survey is conducted to investigate the National Programme "Made in China 2025" and its first demonstration city Quanzhou. The data comes from multiple sources, including questionnaires, official statistics data, and patent databases. Logistical regression is used to analyze 236 valid observations. Results reveal that besides the intrinsic factors including the characteristics of general purpose technology (GPT) and economic expectation, GPT-oriented service platforms also have significant impacts on technology diffusion in a manufacturing paradigm shift. In addition, government interventions, especially indirect ones, have significant moderating effects on this influential mechanism. This study provides insight into how government can promote technology diffusion in a manufacturing paradigm shift. These results will be of interest to policy makers, industrialists, and academics.

Based on the data of Chinese manufacturing listed companies in the process of intelligent upgrade, this article quantitatively analyzes the relationship between environmental regulations, green innovation, environmental dynamism and intelligent upgrading. This article quantitatively studies the role of environmental regulations in promoting intelligent upgrading. It proves the mediating role of green innovation between environmental regulations and intelligent transformation and upgrading. The mediating role of environmental dynamics between green innovation and intelligent upgrading is discussed. The article strives to provide theoretical guidance and practical inspiration for the intelligent upgrading of manufacturing enterprises. The possible marginal contributions of this paper are as follows: Firstly, the impact mechanism of environmental regulations on the intelligent upgrade of manufacturing enterprises is clarified. By constructing a mechanism model of environmental regulations on the intelligent upgrading of manufacturing enterprises, the direct and indirect effects of environmental regulations on the intelligent upgrading of manufacturing enterprises are analyzed. Secondly, it reveals the important role of green innovation in environmental regulations and intelligent upgrading of manufacturing enterprises. By analyzing the relationship between green innovation and the intelligent upgrading of manufacturing enterprises, green innovation and environmental regulations, it verifies the intermediary role of green innovation in environmental regulations and intelligent upgrading of manufacturing enterprises. Thirdly, clarify the regulatory role of environmental dynamism between green innovation and the intelligent upgrading of manufacturing enterprises. This article analyzes the relationship between environmental dynamism and green innovation and the intelligent upgrade of manufacturing companies, and empirically examines the regulatory role of environmental dynamism between green innovation and the intelligent upgrade of manufacturing companies. The rest of this article is organized as follows. "Literature review" section summarizes and reviews relevant important literature. "Research hypotheses" presents research hypotheses among environmental regulations, green innovation, environmental dynamism, and intelligent upgrades. "Materials and method" section presents the research design and method of this paper. "Empirical results and discussion" section verifies the research hypothesis, gives the research results, and discusses the results. "Conclusion and implications" section draws conclusions and theoretical implications.

This paper contributes to the existing knowledge on the correlation between green innovation and financial performance among small and medium‐sized enterprises (SMEs). It examines the effects of two types of green innovation, specifically green product innovation and green process innovation, on the financial performance of SMEs. Additionally, it investigates the moderating role of economic support and predetermined targets, which are essential components of government subsidy programs, in relation to the aforementioned associations. Based on the panel dataset collected from Chinese manufacturing and energy industries covering the period of 2011–2021, the results show that (1) green product innovation may not positively impact the financial performance of SMEs; (2) green process innovation could enhance the financial performance of SMEs; (3) economic support may positively moderate the relationship between green process innovation and the financial performance of SMEs, while predetermined targets may negatively influence this relationship. These findings have considerable implications for practitioners, policymakers, and researchers in the industrial sector.
