Understanding the Geophysical Sources of Uncertainty for Satellite Interferometric (SRTM)-Based Discharge Estimation in River Deltas: The Case for Bangladesh

Abstract: Like most river deltas, Bangladesh represents a geo-1939-1404 . He has published over 100 peer-reviewed journal articles, authored an undergraduatelevel textbook, edited two book volumes, and contributed eight book chapters. His research interests include hydrologic remote sensing, uncertainty modeling of water cycle variables, human modification of extreme hydro-climatology, sustainable water resources engineering, spaceborne transboundary water resources management, engineering education, and public outreach… Show more

“…As typical algorithms of the slope-area method, the Manning-Strickler formula (M-S), Saint-Venant system of equivalence (S-V), and Darcy-Weisbach equivalence (D-W) are widely used to calculate river discharge and water conservation potential [36,42,43].…”

“…When the channel roughness is a constant, discharge is linked with river slope and cross-sectional area [34]. The slope-area method, based on physical laws and mathematical deduction, has achieved a series of results in the discharge calculation of medium and small rivers [35][36][37]. The slope-area method expresses the influence of different environmental factors on river discharge.…”

“…[] simulations were excluded from the analyses to avoid the influence of model initial conditions. As the model was calibrated against in situ stage data, its results may be considered a proper surrogate of true hydrodynamics of this river system, from which SWOT measurements were sampled [ Sikder and Hossain , ; Siddique‐E‐Akbor et al ., ].…”

“…Huq, Bruns and Ribbe (2019) assessed long-term (1973-2014) and short-term (pre-and post-monsoon) quantities, values, and changes of freshwater ecosystem services (FES) in the "beel" areas (i.e., large-surface water body that accumulates surface runoff water) of the middle-south and south-west regions (e.g., Khulna-Gopalganj beel) of Bangladesh [48]. Sikdar and Hossain (2015) studied the geophysical sources of uncertainty for satellite interferometric (SRTM)-based discharge estimation in the river deltas of Bangladesh [49].…”
