Ultrasound-assisted extraction of resveratrol from grape leaves and its purification on mesoporous carbon

Abstract: Resveratrol has been extracted from grape leaves by ultrasound-assisted extraction with aqueous ethanol and further concentrated on a column of mesoporous carbon. The ethanol concentration, extraction temperature, solid/ liquid ratio, and extraction time have been investigated, and the extraction kinetics has been studied. After one treatment run with mesoporous carbon, the resveratrol purity was improved from 2.1 to 20.6%. The antioxidant activities of grape leaf extracts before and after concentration have b… Show more

“…Resveratrol (RSV) quantification was performed according to Sun et al [ 24 ], with slight modifications. A total of 50 mg of the lyophilized samples was weighed in 4 mL brown glass vials and dissolved in 2 mL of extracting solution (ethanol: water, 70:30, v/v) by stirring for 35 min.…”

“…Cation-exchange chromatography was used to separate the stilbenes from 120 samples of white and red wines based on a column of resin and 75% methanol as eluent [ 59 ]. The purification of Rv was also done by means of glass columns packed with mesoporous carbon which were subsequently washed with deionized water and eluted with aqueous ethanol [ 60 ]. In another experiment, a solvent system consisting of heptane/ethyl acetate/ethanol/water (4:5:3:3, v / v / v / v ) was chosen to separate the stilbenes from a compound of hairy root cultures of Peanut ( Arachis hypogaea ) by centrifugal partition chromatography [ 61 ].…”

“…Over the years, several extraction methods have been developed for resveratrol and related stilbenes from grapes, including liquid‐liquid extraction (LLE) (Wang et al ., 2013; Geana et al ., 2015), solid‐phase extraction (SPE) (Soto et al ., 2012; Zhao et al ., 2015), magnetic solid‐phase extraction (Ma et al ., 2015) and stir‐bar sorptive extraction (Viñas et al ., 2008) as well as ultrasound‐assisted extraction (Sun et al ., 2018), microwave‐assisted extraction (Garcia et al ., 2016) and supercritical‐fluid extraction (Casas et al ., 2010). In LLE, organic solvents such as acetonitrile, ethyl acetate and diethyl ether were used to isolate trans‐resveratrol from grapes, wines and grape skin.…”
