Ultra-reliable communications in failure-prone realistic networks

Abstract: Abstract-We investigate the potential of different diversity and interference management techniques to achieve the required downlink SINR outage probability for ultra-reliable communications. The evaluation is performed in a realistic network deployment based on site-specific data from a European capital. Micro and macroscopic diversity techniques are proved to be important enablers of ultra-reliable communications. Particularly, it is shown how a 4x4 MIMO scheme with three orders of macroscopic diversity can … Show more

“…The study in [16] demonstrates that a 4×4 multiinput multi-output (MIMO) microscopic diversity along with two orders of macroscopic diversity are essential to reach the outage SINR point, required to achieve the URLLC latency limit at the 10 −5 outage in 3GPP macro networks. These conclusions are also supported by URLLC realistic measurement campaigns [17]. Hence, the URLLC latency budget can be achieved by enhancing the decoding ability.…”

“…As it is expected that URLLC has been given a small portion of bandwidth similarly to narrowband IoT, applying such techniques might not be a feasible solution. Furthermore, in [8], different micro and macroscopic diversity techniques along with interference management scheme to achieve the required outage probability in the downlink for URLLC was investigated in a realistic network. Similarly, in [9], the analytical tools to characterize the delay and packet loss components for URLLC have been identified and challenges in resource allocation have been presented.…”
