Von der Zeit seiner Entdeckung an bis heute hat das Anilin sich immer wieder sls brauchbares Material fiir Versuche mit oxydirendefi Agentien erwiesen. Dieselben lassen sich ihren Ergebnissen nachwenn man von der Fuchsinechmelze absieht, deren Erfolg nur auf der Anwesenheit verunreinigedder homologer Basen beruhtalle von dern gemeinsamen Gesichtspunkte aus betrachten, dass die wasserstoffentziehende, reap. sauerstoffzufiihrende Wirkiing der Reagentien sich an der freien Amido-Gruppe gelteud macht. Auf diese Weirre entstehen Azo-, Azoxy-, Nitroso-, Nitro-Beozol, Phenylhydroxylamin, Amidophenol, schliesslich Chinon; nur der Vorgang bei der Anilinschwarrbildung ist noch unaufgekliirt.Einen anderen Weg, der friiher schon bei der Oxydation dee p-Toluidine beobachtet worden ist (vergl. die folgeude Abhandlung), schlagt die Reaction ein, die von den Superoxyden des Bleie un& Mangans auf neutrale wiissrige Anilimalzliisungen awgeiibt wird.' Denn hierbei erstreckt sich die oxydirende Wirkuog unter Schonung der Amidogruppe auf zwei andere, in der 1: 4-Stellung zu einander befindliche Wasserstoffatome des Phenylrestes, indem sie hier den chinonartigen Cbarakter des Molekiils hervorruft. Zwar gelingt ee nicht, dae so ale primiir entstaiiden zu denkende Amidochinon selbet zu isoliren, vielmehr bildet sich durch Condensation desselben irm Ziistande der Entstehung mit noch zmei Molekiilen unveranderten Anilios das vorher noch nicht bekannte A m i d o d i p h e n y l c h i n o nd i i m i d , NHz . CS Hs (N Cg H&. 1) Die Hauptergebnisse dieser Arbeit wurden schon auf der Versammlung der deutscben Naturforscher und Aerzte zu Diisseldorf 1898 mitgetheilt : vrrgl. Verbandlungen If, 1, pag. 110.
Durch Kochen dieses Reductionsproductes mit Essigsiiure-Anhpdrid, worin es leicht liislich iet, entsteht ein in weiseen kleinen Rosetten ausfallendes Acetylderivat, das aus verdiinntem Alkohol ia sechsseitigen farbloren Blaittchen vom Schmp. 170-1 71 0 krystallisirt, Dieselben lasen sich 'leicht in absolutem Alkohol, Essigester, Benzol, Aceton, Chloroform, schwerer in Eisessig und Methylalkohol, un& wenig in Aether. Bei der Stickstoffbestimmung gab dieser KBrper die von der Formel C6 HJ (NH. Ca& 0) (NH . C& H& verlangte Zahl: 0.0972 g Sbst.: 10.47 ccm N (210, 759.8 mm). G0IlisN30. Ber. N 13.25. Gef. N. 13.46.Zur U m w a n d l u n g des Amidodiphenylchinonimids i n A z o p h e n i n wird ein Gewichtstheil der rothen Verbindung mit 5 Th. Anilin und 1 Th. salzsaurem Anilin, an debsen Stelle auch eine kleine Menge frisch geschmolzenes und gepulvertes Chlorzink treten kann, einige Minuten zum Sieden erhitzt, wobei die vorher tiefrothe Fliissigkeit sich violet farht; nach dem Erkalten setzt man zu der dicken Fliissigkeit verdiinnte Esaigsiiure, erwarmt und filtrirt, wobei eine dickfliissige, schwarze, allmahlich krystallinisch erstarrende Masee zuriickbleibt. Diese, mit 96-procentigem Alkohol ausgekocht und dann aus Toluol oder Xylol umkrystallisirt, gab die rothen Bliittchen, die sich sowohl durch ihren Schmelzpunkt, ale auch die Schwefelsaure-Reaction und die Oxydation cu Fluorindin durch Kochen mit Qnecksilberoxyd in Nitrobenzol ale Azophenin erkennen liessen.Bei dieser Arbeit hatte ich mich der sorgsamen und gewissenhaften U~nteretiitzung zuerst des Herrn Dr. G e o r g B i i t t n e r , dann des Herrn Dr. E r n s t Z i e g l e r zu erfreuen.
