Twelfth mode on-demand band notch UWB antenna for underlay cognitive radio

Abstract: A wide-slot ultra-wideband (UWB) antenna with on-demand band rejection characteristics that can serve underlay cognitive radio is presented in this paper. This antenna is designed to work in twelve operation modes; one to cover the whole UWB while each of the rest modes excludes one or more of the ranges that are allocated for Worldwide Interoperability for Microwave Access (WiMax), C-band, wireless local area network (WLAN), X-band and International Telecommunication Union (ITU) in a single, dual, triple, qua… Show more

“…PIN diodes are among the most commonly used elements for switching purposes in reconfigurable antennas [22]. HPND-4005 PIN diodes [23], [24] are utilized for the eight switches of this design. These diodes can be configured to act as short/open circuit due to the values of Rs/Cp of their forward/reverse biasing equivalent circuits illustrated in ON/OFF states as illustrated in Figures 5(a) and 5(b).…”

“…PIN diodes are widely used as switching elements in reconfigurable antennas [17], [18]. In this design, six HPND-4005 PIN diodes [19] are inserted to select its mode of operation. Reverse/forward biasing of PIN diode leads the diode to act as open/short circuit.…”

“…MIMO, in conjugate with ultra-wide band (UWB) technology and its license-free utilization over the 3.1-10.6 GHz range approved by federal communications commission (FCC) in 2002, looks optimum to fulfill the high data rates needs of users in modern wireless communication [3]. However, what rises to disturb the UWB MIMO systems is having other wireless technologies that coexist in the UWB operation area of frequencies [4] and thus affect the quality of communications. Fortunately,…”
