Trust establishment in cooperative wireless relaying networks

Abstract: In cooperative wireless networks, relay nodes are employed to improve the performance of the network in terms of throughput and reliability. However, the presence of malicious relay nodes in the network may severely degrade the performance of the system. When a relay node behaves maliciously, there exists a possibility that such a node refuses to cooperate when it is selected for cooperation or deliberately drops the received packets. Trust establishment is a mechanism to detect misbehaving nodes in a network.… Show more

“…where P c is the a priori probability of the relay being cooperative, which can be estimated from the history of detection [14], and f (ρ misbehaving) and f (ρ cooperative) are conditional distributions of ρ with a known misbehaving pattern, which can be obtained based on the asymptotic analysis (Sec. III-B).…”

“…Changiz et al . stated that Bayesian methodology is not applicable in cooperative wireless networks because channel status and relay selection strategy affects trust evaluation in such networks. They proposed a trust establishment method, which modifies Bayesian methodology to evaluate trustworthiness of relay nodes in such networks.…”

“…ARANz enhances some QoS parameters such as packet delivery ratio, packet routing load, and packet network load, but it suffers from average packet latency due to use of digital signature and verification mechanisms in each node. Changiz et al [27] stated that Bayesian methodology is not applicable in cooperative wireless networks because channel status and relay selection strategy affects trust evaluation in such networks. They proposed a trust establishment method, which modifies Bayesian methodology to evaluate trustworthiness of relay nodes in such networks.…”
