Within 15 years, the population of Macaca fascicularis has declined rapidly. In early 2022, the IUCN Red List classified them as “Endangered”, though they were considered a species of “Least Concern” in 2008. Land alteration, illegal hunting, and human-macaque conflict often halt long-tailed macaque conservation efforts. Through the Primatology course, anthropology students are taught the importance of macaque conservation and its complications. This preliminary study aims to reveal anthropology students’ knowledge regarding the long-tailed macaque’s status quo and its conservation efforts, pre- and post- their enrolment in the course. Employing a descriptive qualitative approach, this study conducted in-depth interviews with 10 consenting informants—active undergraduate anthropology students. After the transcription process, the data was analyzed by dividing it into multiple subchapters and reviewed with existing literature. More than half of the informants’ knowledge about Macaca fascicularis and primates, in general, is quite satisfactory, though they are still unaware of their current conservation status. According to the informants, cultural and religious factors are closely related to long-tailed macaque conservation, shown in Balinese Hindu temples, Javanese wayang, and topeng monyet. The study concluded that primatology is important because it raises awareness about human’s closest relatives, their ecological significance, and their conservation measures. Adoption or adaptation of the ethnoprimatological framework in biology education as a means of sociocultural exploration and primate conservation is highly recommended. Further research on ethnoprimatology in Indonesia is much needed since Indonesia has many cultural values that might assure the people about contemporary conservation efforts

Bali tourism was experiencing difficult times with minus growth during the pandemic in 2020 and 2021. In 2022, Bali tourism has’nt recovered as before yet. This proves that the Bali tourism development model based on mass tourism cannot provide comfort and security for the people of Bali. Amid this crisis, it was difficult for Balinese people to return to the agricultural sector due to the decline in agricultural land. Therefore, finding a model for tourism development in Bali for the future was a serious matter. This model must also touch on the philosophy of tourism development in Bali, namely Tri Hita Karana. The results of the analysis show that this philosophy cannot work in the context of mass tourism development. This philosophy can only work in small-scale rural tourism development. Therefore, the ideal Bali tourism model was a small-scale rural tourism model. This model was also threatened by the development of mass tourism. Therefore, the government must pay more attention to the development of small-scale tourism businesses, which were stronger in times of crisis because the small-scale business model was a model of sustainable tourism development in the new normal era.

Purpose: This study aimed to analyze the implementation of Tri Hita Karana (THK) local knowledge at Uluwatu Temple Tourist Attraction in Badung Regency which is one of Bali’s popular destinations. Theoretical framework: In this study, the theory of cultural tourism is used, especially the one relating to a local knowledge where the local knowledge is an integral part of the local cultural system. In this case, THK consists of three aspects, namely (1) the relationship between humans and God as the Creator, (2) the relationship among humans, and (3) the relationship between humans and the natural environment. Design/Methodology/Approach: The sample population consisted of two hundred respondents, who are selected based on the predetermined criteria. The data obtained are then analyzed using multiple linear regression analysis, classical assumption test, Ttest, Ftest, and the coefficient of determination test (R2). Findings: The results showed that humans-God (parhyangan), humans-other humans (pawongan), and humans-natural environment (palemahan) interactions had a favorable and substantial impact on the development of cultural tourism at Uluwatu Temple Tourist Attraction. The local knowledge keeps the tourism business sustainable at the tourist attraction. Research, Practical & Social implications: This research practically becomes a model for the implementation of cultural tourism business which ideally should not leave aspects of local knowledge in the local community. All tourism stakeholders strive to unite in carrying out cultural tourism that has been aligned with the existence of local knowledge existed in the community. Originality/value: The study uses a quantitative approach to analyze all aspects of THK which leads to findings of integrated theology-sociology-ecology that are in harmony with each other in the tourism business as a research multidisciplinary. The results of this study broadened the appeal of scientific discourse in the field of cultural tourism. The God's entity (aspect of religiosity), as shown through THK and its implementation in business activities with the holy site as capital is important to strengthen understanding of cultural tourism.
