Objective: To validate the construct and test the reliability of the Brazilian version of Hypertension Knowledge-Level Scale. Methods: Methodological research with 220 participants in a primary health care unit from Curitiba, Paraná. The data were collected with a social demographic questionnaire and the Brazilian version of the scale. The construct validity and reliability were assessed using Cronbach’s Alpha, Pearson’s Correlation and Analysis of Variance. The discriminant validity was verified comparing groups of people with hypertension and without, using T test. Results: Cronbach’s Alpha was 0.74. The groups comparison showed that people with hypertension had better results (p<0,001). Pearson’s Correlation showed that the questions measure different aspects of the same construct, justifying its organization in subdimensions. Conclusion: The Brazilian version of Hypertension Knowledge-Level Scale is a reliable instrument, which had its construct and criterion validated to measure knowledge about hypertension among Brazilian people. It can help health professionals with planning educative actions.

Objective:to make the translation, cross-cultural adaption and content and face validation of the Hypertension Knowledge-Level Scale for use in Brazil. Methods:methodological research carried out in six stages: translation, synthesis, back-translation, expert committee’s assessment, pre-test and validation. Validation was performed through the Delphi technique in two rounds. The participants were two translators and two back-translators, eight professionals in the expert committee, 40 adult participants in the pre-test, 35 experts in the first validation round and 28 in the second validation round. Data analysis included Cronbach’s alpha, content validity index and one-tailed t-test. Results:the translation and cross-cultural adaptation allowed for language adjustments so that the items were comprehensible and suitable for use in Brazil. The content validity index of the Brazilian version of Hypertension Knowledge-Level Scale was 0.96 and Cronbach’s alpha was 0.92. Conclusions:the scale was translated, cross-culturally adapted to Brazilian Portuguese, had its content and face validated and proved reliable to evaluate the knowledge of adults about hypertension.

ÖZET Amaç: Bu kesitsel çalışmanın amacı ebeveynlerin pediatrik uyku apnesi ile ilgili bilgilerini ve ortodontistin bu hastalığın teşhis ve tedavisindeki yeri ile ilgili fikirlerini değerlendirme-ktir. Gereç ve Yöntem: Pediatrik uyku apnesi hakkındaki farkın-dalık ve görüşleri ölçmek üzere tasarlanmış bir anket, çocuklarının ortodontik tedavisi için bir üniversite ortodonti kliniğine başvuran uygun örneklem grubu ebeveynlere uygulandı. Elde edilen veriler ortalama ve sıklıkları içeren tanım-layıcı istatistikler ile analiz edildi. Demografik değişkenler ile sorgulanan bilgi maddeleri arasındaki korelasyonlar Pearson ki-kare testi kullanılarak incelendi. Bulgular: Anket toplam 260 ebeveyn tarafından cevaplandı. (Ortalama yaş: 40,7±6,6 yıl, 169 kadın, 91 erkek). Ebeveynlerin çoğu, diş hekimleri ve ortodontistlerin tıbbi hastalık riskleri yönünden çocuklarında değerlendirme yapmasının çok önemli olduğu görüşündeydi (sırasıyla %76,5 ve %76,2). Ebeveynler aynı zamanda ortodontistin çocuklarını uyku apnesi riski yönünden değerlendirmesini isteyeceklerini (%92,7) ve eğer ortodontist yönlendirirse uyku apnesi açısından değerlendirilmek üzere çocuklarını doktora götüreceklerini (%97,5) belirttiler. Çoğu ebeveyn pediatrik uyku apnesi hakkında temel düzeyde bir bilgiye sahip olmasına rağmen, bu hastalığın etyolojisi, semptomları, teşhisi, sonuçları ve tedavileri hakkında bilgileri yoktu. Artmış eğitim seviyesi, pediatrik uyku apnesi hakkındaki bilgi düzeyi ile anlamlı düzeyde ilişkiliydi (p<0,05). Sonuç: Sonuçlar ortodonti kliniğine başvuran ebeveynlerin çocuklarının uyku apnesi yönünden incelenmesine olumlu baktığını göstermiştir. Ancak bilgi düzeylerinin düşüklüğü, ebeveynler arasında pediatrik uyku apnesi farkındalığını arttırmak için eğitsel yöntemlerin geliştirilmesi gerekliliğini ortaya koymuştur. Anahtar kelimeler: Obstrüktif uyku apnesi, bilgi düzeyi, anket SUMMARY Aim: The purpose of this cross-sectional study was to assess parents' knowledge on pediatric sleep apnea and their attitudes regarding the role of the orthodontist in the diagnosis and management of sleep apnea. Materials and Methods: A questionnaire designed to evaluate awareness and views about pediatric sleep apnea was given to a convenience sample of parents visiting a university clinic for the orthodontic treatment of their children. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics including means and frequencies. Pearson's chi-square statistics were used in order to determine the correlation between knowledge items questioned and demographic variables.
