Transition metal complexes with thiosemicarbazide-based ligands. Part 57: Synthesis, spectral and structural characterization of dioxovanadium(V) and dioxomolybdenum(VI) complexes with pyridoxal s-methylisothiosemicarbazone

Abstract: This work is concerned with the synthesis of neutral dioxovanadium(V) and dioxomolybdenum(VI) complexes with tridentate ONN pyridoxal S-methylisothiosemicarbazone (PLITSC) of the respective formulas [VO 2 (PLITSC-H)]·2H 2 O and [MoO 2 (PLITSC-2H)]. Structural X-ray analysis of the vanadium complex showed that it has an almost ideal square-pyramidal structure, while the molybdenum complex is supposed to have a polymeric octahedral structure. In addition to elemental analysis, both complexes were characterized b… Show more

“…Cobalt complexes with PLITSC include the following: Co(PLITSC-2H)(PLITSC-H)]·CH 3 OH [ 20 ]; Co(PLITSC)Cl 2 ]·2H 2 O, [Co(PLITSC)(PLITSC-H)]Cl 2 ·4H 2 O and [Co(PLITSC-H) 2 ]Cl·2H 2 O, [Co(PLITSC-H)(PLITSC-2H)]CH 3 OH, [Co(PLITSC)(NH 3 ) 3 ]NO 3 ·3H 2 O [ 13 ]. Several compounds containing vanadium, molybdenum, and nickel were obtained, namely, [VO 2 (PLITSC–H)]·2H 2 O [ 21 ], [MoO 2 (PLITSC–2H)] [ 21 ], and [Ni (PLITSC) (H 2 O) 3 ] (NO 3 ) 2 [ 22 ], respectively. Poladian and coworkers published a paper on the new Zn(II) complex with ligand derived from PLITSC in which the antioxidant activity of complex was higher than that of a Trolox [ 23 ].…”

“…27,28 It should be noted that C2-O1 bond is slightly longer (1.338(3) and 1.332(3) Å for 1 and 3, respectively) compared with the C-O − bond in the zwitter-ion of a similar ligand, i.e., pyridoxal thiosemicarbazone (1.29 Å), 29 which could be explained by means of the excess electron density transfer from the phenoxide oxygen to the metal ion via coordinative bonding. 27,28 It should be noted that C2-O1 bond is slightly longer (1.338(3) and 1.332(3) Å for 1 and 3, respectively) compared with the C-O − bond in the zwitter-ion of a similar ligand, i.e., pyridoxal thiosemicarbazone (1.29 Å), 29 which could be explained by means of the excess electron density transfer from the phenoxide oxygen to the metal ion via coordinative bonding.…”

“…4) due to H (a) and H (b) (Scheme 2), respectively. 72,[77][78][79][80] However, addition of the dilute aqueous acid solution also promotes partial hydrolysis of the [Zn( pydmedpt)] complex (Scheme 2). The pyridoxal aromatic H (a) shows a signal at 7.61 ppm (H (a1) ), which corresponds to the protonated species (CIa and CIb), and a signal at 7.70 ppm (H (a2) ) (at pD = 5.6) which probably corresponds to species CIIa and/or CIIb, that results from the partial hydrolysis of the pydmedpt ligand.…”
