Transition Metal Complexes of Propranolol Dithiocarbamate: Synthesis, Characterization, Analytical Properties and Biological Activity

Abstract: Propranolol dithiocarbamate (PDTC) and its complexes with Cu(II), Co(II), Ni(II), Zn(II) and Cd(II) have been synthesized and characterized by elemental analyses, FT-IR, electronic spectra, atomic absorption spectra, molar conductance, mass and 1 H-n.m.r. spectral data. Information on the stoichiometry of the complexes was obtained from the continuous variation method (Job's method). The thermal decomposition behaviour of PDTC metal complexes was investigated in a nitrogen atmosphere using TG and DTA technique… Show more

“…Several metal dithiocarbamate complexes have been synthesized simply by the reaction of dithiocarbamate ligand with the corresponding metal salts in an appropriate solvent [ 43 , 44 , 45 , 46 , 47 , 48 , 49 ]. The metal dithiocarbamate complexes formed are often via simple metathesis with corresponding metal salt [ 15 , 50 ].…”

“…Through literature survey, it was found that metallic Cu is highly susceptible for complexation with DTCs [52]. In this regard, chloroform reagent was used to assess the chemical reaction of pesticides with CTAB-CuNPs.…”

“…The IR bands of the free dithiocarbamate ligands on coordination with copper(II) show a shift towards higher wave numbers. In these complexes a strong band observed in the region 1505-1441 cm 1 is attributed to υ(C-N) stretching vibration which lies intermediate between υ(C-N) and υ(C═N) indicating a partial double bond character of the C-N bond [19][20] . It shows a positive shift of 25-35 cm 1 in comparison to the corresponding band in the free ligands.…”
