trans-Bis(alkylphosphine) platinum(ii)-alkynyl complexes showing broadband visible light absorption and long-lived triplet excited states

Abstract: Broadband visible light-harvesting bis(alkylphosphine) platinum(ii)-alkynyl complexes based on resonance energy transfer were prepared and used for TTA upconversion.

“…Thus, it was proposed that the S 1 state of a Pt II bis(acetylide) complex is delocalized over the segments across the Pt II atom(s). It should be pointed out that for some other Pt II complexes the absorption of the acetylide ligand coordinated on the Pt II atom does not change in the presence of another visible‐light‐absorbing ligand coordinated to the Pt II atom (i.e., no significant π‐conjugation across the Pt II atom is observed) , , . Schanze and co‐workers also obtained phosphorescence spectra of the PAOs (Figure ).…”

“…The two bis(phosphine)Pt II bis(acetylide) complexes 29 and 30 (Figure ), which show strong broadband visible‐light‐harvesting ability and long‐lived triplet excited states, were prepared by our group . The 2,6‐diethynylBodipy ligand was used as the central coordinated ligand for both complexes, and the 2‐ethynylBodipy and 8‐(4′‐ethynylphenyl)Bodipy ligands were used as the peripheral coordinated ligands for complexes 29 and 30 , respectively.…”

“…However, these complexes have only one kind of ligand and, consequently, only one absorption band in the visible region. To make better use of broad‐band light sources, the broadening of the absorption band of the photosensitizer is extremely important . The introduction of an extra chromophore is an easy method to enhance the absorption and form new molecules that display a wealth of fundamentally interesting and potentially useful properties …”
