Tracking the diffusion of industrial symbiosis scholarship using bibliometrics: Comparing across Web of Science, Scopus, and Google Scholar

Abstract: Previous bibliometric analyses of industrial symbiosis (IS) research have focused on a limited body of literature owing to the scope of keyword searches or limitations of library databases. This study seeks to apply bibliometrics to explore broader, epistemological questions, particularly about the structure and geospatial development of IS as a sub-field of industrial ecology. We also evaluate the benefits of using Google Scholar, in addition to the conventional databases Web of Science (WoS) and Scopus, for … Show more

“…Moreover, Scopus has been argued to represent a comprehensive and relevant source of information for conducting systematic reviews, which yields similar results to other available sources for conducting literature analysis, such as Clarivate Analytics' Web of Science (Vieira and Gomes, 2009). Though Google Scholar has been argued to represent a valuable source for literature reviews (Chertow et al. , 2021), it does not efficiently provide consistent and complete bibliometric data for reviews.…”

“…It was conducted using databases, mainly Google Scholar and Oria, in addition to relevant papers provided by the university. Recent bibliometric analysis concluded that Google Scholar is able to capture more articles from a greater diversity of sources than other databases (Chertow et al, 2021). The following search keywords were used to find relevant literature:…”
