Abstract: Problem statement:Owing to numerous adverse effects of most orthodox pharmaceuticals, the use of herbal remedies in treatment and prevention of diseases is gaining much attention, especially in developing countries. “…Numerous and irrefutable cases of poisoning have been reported in the literature ( Vanherweghem and Degaute, 1998 ; Cosyns et al, 1999 ; Ernst, 2002 ). The toxicity evaluation of the polyherbal formula, Yoyo “Cleanser” Bitters®, conducted recently in our laboratory ( Ekor et al, 2010 ), was prompted by an unpublished case report of a young male adult who had been on self-medication with this herbal product and was subsequently admitted to the hospital on account of liver failure.
