Tourism path planning is complex in hilly areas due to a variety of challenges including steep hills, narrow roads, and limited accessibility. Furthermore, when planning tourism paths, hilly areas frequently have distinctive natural potential that must be carefully taken into account such as dynamic objectives. Temperature, pressure, and health state are three of the most important dynamic objectives. In this paper, we proposed a dynamic objectives approach to developing tourism path planning in hilly areas. The main contribution of this approach was the improved Ant Colony Optimization algorithm ACO to establish a new multi-dynamic objectives approach and apply this approach in hilly areas. We have improved ACO by comparing construction tour and updating pheromone methods. This approach has been applied to develop tourist routes in Jebel Marra hilly in western Sudan. Our approach was compared with the genetic algorithm GA and the traditional ACO. Results show the advantage of our approach due to the optimizing time being 0.27 seconds, 0.45 seconds for GA, and 0.40 seconds for traditional ACO.

Post-Pandemic Tourism: Opportunities for Creative Tourism

Tourism was one of the most affected sectors by the outbreak of COVID-19 in early 2020 which had a devastating impact on the economy, and researchers are questioning the future of tourism in a post-pandemic world. In this exploratory text, based on a literature review, it is questioned if creative tourism can play a role in the rebuilding of the tourism industry, once it relies on place-based experiences that use local resources and involves communities and tourists in immersive activities. Creative tourism seems to be a response to the challenges, namely the tourists’ perception of physical distancing, the need to avoid over-tourism, mass tourism and touristification, the desire to reconnect with other people and to have enriching emotional experiences, the increase of awareness about sustainability (for places and future generations) and the resident’s needs and their living conditions. This paper relates the ongoing research on post-pandemic tourism, from several points of view – the tourist’s perceptions, the communities and territories’ needs, and the tourism planners’ vision… – with creative tourism, addressing the opportunities for such tourism, and questioning its feasibility and potential contribution to more meaningful tourism for both hosts and guests, to local economies grow, and to making tourism more sustainable.

Tourism industry is one of the most striking examples of the COVID-19 pandemic impact on population and economy. In the previous decade the global and Russian tourism industry demonstrated sustainable development, while in 2020, due to the pandemic consequences the situation in the industry turned out to be on the brick of disaster. The most acute problems of business in this area were largely accounted for by significant social consequences of the pandemic. Decreased quality of life caused by the disease and its manifestations, aggravated chronic diseases, increased temporary disability, combined with closure of borders and collapse of international transportation, have developed a complex of factors that completely paralyzed all sectors of the tourism industry for a while. Many of these factors will retain their impact in the long term. However, the pandemic impact cannot be viewed in a negative way only. There comes an understanding that tourism may become one of the engines of economy recovery rather than a burden. This requires systematic actions of the state primarily focused on stimulating domestic tourism, restoring and developing business ecosystems, keeping in balance various interests of the tourism industry stakeholders, from tourists per se and local businesses to regional and federal authorities.
