Titanium Silicalite-1 Nanosheet-Supported Platinum for Non-oxidative Ethane Dehydrogenation

Abstract: Studies of stable catalysts for non-oxidative dehydrogenation of ethane (NDE) have been challenged by coke deposition from side reactions and thermal sintering of active species. Herein, we report a catalyst mechanism that overcomes both challenges to enable highly stable, active, and selective NDE. The catalyst is made of subnanometric platinum (Pt) species (i.e., single atoms and clusters) habituated on a two-dimensional (2D) multilamellar titanium silicalite-1 (M-TS-1) zeolite nanosheet support (i.e., Pt/M-… Show more

“…Single-atomic Pt distribution inside the 2D-layered Ti-Si-zeolite nanosheets and embedding of nanoclusters in HZSM-5 resulted in significantly better stability, higher activity and ethylene selectivity. 91,92 Application of MFI silicalite as support allowed obtaining highly active and stable Cr-based catalysts. Their catalytic performance was attributed to the Cr II (O-SiR) 2 sites identified by operando XAS.…”

“…In general, the immobilization of metals by physical confinement is a common method, but it sometimes restricts the accessibilities of active sites under high temperature conditions . Therefore, enhancing metal–support interactions (MSI) by anchoring metals with support defects is an effective method against sintering. Zhu et al prepared mesoporous Al 2 O 3 -supported PtSn clusters . The high-surface-area support with abundant defects formed by coordinatively unsaturated pentacoordinate Al 3+ could anchor Pt species.…”

“…Zeolite nanosheets are considered as ideal supports to anchor metals due to their high specific surface areas and abundant Si-OH. ,, Yu et al supported ultrasmall metal clusters on self-pillared MFI zeolites . The loaded Rh–Ru bimetallic clusters were less than 1 nm under high temperature, resulting from the affluent Si-OH sites which were beneficial to stabilize ultrasmall metal species and inhibit agglomeration.…”

“…For the production of aromatics from various light nparaffins, zeolites that have appropriate acidity and a ten-membered-ring channel structure such as HZSM-5 are essential for efficient aromatization catalysts, in addition to the also necessary components capable of dehydrogenation of alkanes. However, the reported catalyst systems are mainly limited to the Mo-, Zn-and Ga-based zeolite catalysts, [24][25][26][27] while the components like Pt or PtSn, [28][29][30] V (ref. 31 and 32) and Cr (ref.…”
