Titanium particles: An emerging risk factor for peri-implant bone loss

Abstract: Highlights Titanium wear particles were identified in peri-implantitis tissues. Overexpressed cytokine levels for RANKL and high levels of the other inflammatory cytokines (TGF-β1, IL-33 and CD68) were observed. A causal relationship between the presence of particles and peri-implantitis cannot be confirmed.
