Thermal Properties and Dynamic Characteristics of Electrospun Polylactide/Natural Rubber Fibers during Disintegration in Soil

Abstract: In this work, PLA/NR electrospun fibers were used as substrates for growing basil. Thermal characteristics of initial samples and after 60 and 220 days of degradation were determined using differential scanning calorimetry. In the process of disintegration, the melting and glass transition temperatures in PLA/NR composites decreased, and in PLA fibers these values increased slightly. TGA analysis in an argon environment confirmed the effect of NR on the thermal degradation of PLA/NR fibers. After exposure to t… Show more

“…Its strength (59.1 MPa) decreases with the introduction of dispersed additives in its polymer matrix. Therefore, there are numerous reports in the literature about the dispersion of these additives, either in certain plasticizers [ 47 ] or in elastic fillings [ 48 ]. However, it is essential not to exceed certain additive concentrations.…”

“…30 The neat PLA spectrum features the stretching vibration of the PLA's carbonyl group at 1749 À1 , and the intensity of this peak is decreasing with increasing amounts of P(3HB)(4HB). The peaks at 758 and 872 cm À1 , attributed to the crystalline and amorphous phases of PLA, 32 are also visible in IR spectra of the blends.…”

“…An increase in the time of exposure of the polymer in aqueous medium at elevated temperature (45 and 70 °C) results in a reduction in the radical concentration and the correlation time. In [ 29 , 30 ], the agricultural application of PLA-based nonwoven fibers was considered. In [ 30 ], PLA/NR electrospun fabrics were used as substrates for growing basil.…”
