The viscoelastic properties of modified thermoplastic impregnated multiaxial aramid fabrics

Abstract: This study reports the manufacture of new fabric forms from the preparation of hybrid laminated multiaxial composites with enhanced thermo‐mechanical properties. Thermal and dynamic mechanical analysis of polymer matrix films and fabricated hybrid composites were used to determine the optimal material composition and reinforcement content for composites with improved viscoelastic properties. The introduction of 5 wt% silica nanoparticles in a composite of p‐aramid–poly(vinyl butyral) led to significant improve… Show more

“…an increase of 86% in comparison to the E ′of PU/aramid/PVB. The sample of the PU/aramid/PVB shows the E ′ increase by 38% compared to the sample of aramid/PVB which indicates a high adhesion by bonding PU/PVB polymer matrix trough a hydroxyl group of PVB reacting chemically with an isocyanate group (see Scheme ). Two glass transitions temperature ( T g ) can be seen in Fig.…”

“…Additionally, a polymer powder, PVB (Mowital B75H, Kuraray Specialities Europe), was used for polymer matrix. The functionalization of silica nanoparticles using AMEO silane is reported in our previous paper . The process of hydrolysis and silanol (Si–OH) formation lasted around 10 min at 2 wt.% silane content.…”

“…Figure shows the FTIR spectra of bamboo powder/HDPE composites with different UHMWPE contents. The peak around 3420 cm −1 could be assigned to the hydroxyl groups . Peaks at 2850 cm −1 –2963 cm −1 were due to the stretching vibrations of saturated hydrocarbons (CH).…”

“…Ceramics have usually been used as reinforcement in the body armour owing to its properties, such as introducing flexibility and light weight of the overall fabric structure [8]. The addition of the nanoscale ceramic reinforcement to polymer matrices improves the mechanical properties, notably compared to the pure matrix material in the body armour [9]. Among this ceramics, nanosilica is one of the primary nanofillers used in polymer composites.…”
