The Verbal Behavior of Counseling Trainees in an Observational Setting

Abstract: An analysis of verbal comments made by counselor trainees as they observed counselor performances was based on: (a) level of experience of the trainees; (b) type of counselor performance to which the trainees responded; and (c) method of observation available to the trainees, i.e., tapes, typescripts, or both tapes and typescripts. Significant differences in verbal behavior were obtained for the level of experience of the counselor trainees and the type of counselor performance being observed.
