The Use of Immobilized Templates—A New Approach in Molecular Imprinting

Abstract: By using porous silica gel as a solid support, template molecules can be immobilized to give a novel approach to molecular imprinting in polymers. Polymerizable, functional monomers assemble around a template (such as theophylline, see picture). Following polymerization, this support is sacrificed by dissolving in HF. The remaining polymer shows a specific binding capacity for theophylline, but not for related compounds, such as theobromine and caffeine. All binding sites are uniformly oriented and located at … Show more

“…The imprints were shown to be capable of binding larger peptides with the same terminal sequence as the template peptide (epitope). 130 This method is a development of that shown for small molecules 131,132 and is also similar in concept to the nanowire method, shown in Figure 8.…”

“…Após o término da reação, o suporte sólido e o analito são removidos por dissolução química com solução de HF criando, desta maneira, os sítios seletivos 68 . A dissolução química é realizada com HF, pois se trata de um ácido "polimérico", cuja função é apenas dissolver a sílica preservando a matriz polimérica.…”

“…An alternative route demonstrated by our group and others was to use a template immobilized on a solid support [17]. Following imprinting polymerization, the template and the carrier support were removed by chemical dissolution, which leaves surface imprinted sites on the obtained MIP.…”
