“…The longer foreign-born women were in Canada, the more likely they were to participate. Siklos and Marr (1998) used the IMDB for aggregate Canadian data to examine claims on unemployment insurance by immigrants who landed in Canada between 1980 and1987. On average, about 21 per cent of the foreign-born claim UI receipts each year, with little difference between males and females. This compares with about 16 per cent of all tax filers who claimed unemployment insurance benefits in 1988, and with approximately 24 per cent of tax filers aged 20 to 34 who received unemployment benefits in that year.…”
