The trajectory of slender curved liquid jets for small Rossby number

Abstract: Wallwork et al. (2002) and Decent et al. (2002) developed an asymptotic method for describing the trajectory and instability of slender curved liquid jets. Decent et al. (2018) showed that this method is accurate for slender curved jets when the torsion of the centreline of the jet is small or O (1), but the asymptotic method may become invalid when the torsion is asymptotically large. This paper examines the torsion for a slender steady curved jet which emerges from an orifice on the outer surface of a rapidl… Show more

“…On the other hand, Decent et al (2018) mathematically showed that, when torsion is of O(1) or less, it has no effect on the jet behaviour when the jet is slender. In a recent study, Alsharif et al (2018) analytically showed that, even at large rotation speeds, torsion is important only near the nozzle.…”

“…Once sprayed, each particle falls along the same paraboloid and forms a spiral line. In the process of falling, the molten asphalt jet breaks quickly into droplets [ 8 ]. If the viscosity of asphalt is too high, it cannot break into small droplets during spraying, which will affect the particle size and quality of the final product.…”
