“…In the present study, the only detectable immunoglobulin in all of the reaginically active DEAE-Sephadex fractions was yG glo bulin, in agreement with studies by Sherman and M enzel (19) and Stanworth (20), who used different isolation methods. On the other hand, removal of yG globulin from the active DEAE-Sephadex fractions with goat antiserum to human yG globulin did not result in concomitant loss of reaginic antibodies.…”

“…The average P-K titer of the different serum fractions indicates that 71 % of the recovered reaginic activity is localized on the leading shoulder of the second peak (fraction 4) with an almost symmetric extension to the neighbouring fractions 3 and 5 corresponding to the descending part of the first and the summit of the second peak respectively. These findings confirm and complete the observation of various workers (26,27,41,52,53) who studied only a few sera obtained from subjects mostly sensitive to ragweed pollen. We have also found as did T e r r and Bentz (26) a good correlation between the elution zone of the skin sensitizing antibodies and IgA globulins.…”

“…Relevant here is the observation of STANWORTH [18] that two peptides identical apart from the amidation of a single carboxylate group differ widely in their ability to release histamine from rat peritoneal mast cells; the amidated peptide is more active. These were modified to neutral derivatives using two different methods.…”
