The implementation of Curriculum 2013 brought changes to students' admissions to high school/vocational level. Students are required to choose their course earlier, with or without trial time, which marks the importance of career planning and efficacy to decide their future career for students since junior-high. This study examined the role of career exploration behavior (CEB) as a mediator between career-related parental support (CRPS) and career decision-making self-efficacy (CDSE). Data were obtained from 140 junior-high school students on grade VIII and IX in the 2018/2019 school year in the year of 2018/2019. The regression analysis showed that CRPS has significantly influenced relations with CDSE, with CEB only has a small role in partially mediating their relationship (b = .44, t(137) = 6.31, p = .000; coefficient = .22, SE = 3.91%, CI = .14 - .29). The result is fit with the social cognitive career theory (SCCT). Other results obtained from the additional analysis, instrumental assistance (b = .20, t(134) = 3.1, p = .041), and verbal encouragement (b = .16, t(134) = 2.06, p = .041) were able to influence the CDSE directly, but emotional support indirectly (coefficient = .09, SE = 3.29%, CI = .03 - .16) influences CDSE through CEB as mediator. These results may be affected by Indonesian's collectivist culture, which able to play a role in adolescents' development and their capacity to make their career-choice independently.

This study was framed within a quantitative research methodology to develop a concise measure of calculus self-efficacy with high psychometric properties. A survey research design was adopted in which 234 engineering and economics students rated their confidence in solving year-one calculus tasks on a 15-item inventory. The results of a series of exploratory factor analyses using minimum rank factor analysis for factor extraction, oblique promin rotation, and parallel analysis for retaining extracted factors revealed a one-factor solution of the model. The final 13-item inventory was unidimensional with all eigenvalues greater than 0.42, an average communality of 0.74, and a 62.55% variance of the items being accounted for by the latent factor, i.e., calculus self-efficacy. The inventory was found to be reliable with an ordinal coefficient alpha of 0.90. Using Spearman’ rank coefficient, a significant positive correlation ρ ( 95 ) = 0.27 , p < 0.05 (2-tailed) was found between the deep approach to learning and calculus self-efficacy, and a negative correlation ρ ( 95 ) = − 0.26 , p < 0.05 (2-tailed) was found between the surface approach to learning and calculus self-efficacy. These suggest that students who adopt the deep approach to learning are confident in dealing with calculus exam problems while those who adopt the surface approach to learning are less confident in solving calculus exam problems.

ResumoO estudo analisa as propriedades psicométricas da versão Portuguesa do Inventário de Atividades para Crianças -Revisto (ICA-R), numa amostra de crianças (N=228) do 4º ano de escolaridade. Os dados são examinados no modelo de Holland, de acordo com premissas desenvolvimentistas e sociocognitivas que salientam fatores sociais e escolares na formação do autoconceito. A análise em componentes principais revela uma estrutura dos interesses e das crenças de capacidade consistente com o modelo de Holland e com atribuições de género e preferências escolares. O conjunto dos dados indica que a versão portuguesa do ICA-R é metrologicamente precisa e válida, e aponta dados positivos para a validade intercultural da medida e do modelo de Holland. As potencialidades do ICA-R são discutidas na investigação sobre o processo de formação do autoconceito e na intervenção educacional de carreira. Palavras-chave: interesses, competências, autoconceito, género, experiências escolares AbstractThis study analyzes the psychometric properties of the Inventory of Children's Activities -Revised (ICA-R), in a sample of 4th grade children (N=228). Data are examined base upon Holland's Personality Type Model, according to developmental and socio-cognitive assumptions that emphasize social and academic factors in the formation of self-concept. Principal component analysis reveals a structure of interests and competence perceptions consistent with the Holland's model, as well as with gender attributions and school preferences. The data set indicates that the Portuguese version of ICA-R is metrologically accurate and valid, and points out the intercultural validity of the measure and of Holland's model. The potential of the ICA-R is discussed in the context of research on the process of self-concept formation and career educational intervention.
