“…3 The intermittent nature of hyperglycemia has bee documented in man. 12 -15 Therefore, its occurrence i M. albicaudatus is not unexpected because diabetes me litus in this species appears to be very similar, in boi complexity and diversity, to what has been described i man. Of the 161 animals which have had multiple seru glucose determinations with only one hyperglycem value, some are expected to demonstrate repeated hype glycemia, with or without intermittent hyperglycemi and to progress into overt, clinical diabetes mellitus they are repeatedly monitored.…”

“…Each of 620 members-of the colony was bled periodically to determine his serum glucose value. The schedule was to bleed each animal when it reached 4, 6,9,12,18,24,36, and 48 mo. of age.…”

“…Renal glycosuria is the urinary excretion of abnormal amount of glucose, while maintaining a normal glucose concentration. 6 This identity can be recognized among people with familial renal glycosuria which is a rare tubular disorder or in patients receiving drugs such as tenofovir. 7 Mutations with the renal sodium glucose cotransporter 2 (SGLT2) gene (in other words SLC5A2 gene) lead to familial renal glycosuria.…”

“…Another limitation is that not all persons with glycosuria have, or develop, NIDDM, as 35 ± 50% of men and 70 ± 80% of women aged 50 ± 70 y with postprandial glycosuria have NIDDM. This estimate is based on observations in a number of surveys, including the Diabetes Survey in Bedford, England in 1962 (Keen, 1964;Butter®eld et al, 1967) and studies in other ethnic groups (Jackson et al, 1968;Cheah et al, 1972;Chaisiri et al, 1997). Our predictive value is likely to be higher, because we only included persons with approximated fasting glycosuria, who are more likely to have NIDDM than those with postprandial glycosuria (Davies et al, 1993).…”
