Various government initiatives to support food security based on local wisdom, such as planting sago, must be implemented through multiple agricultural potentials. On the other hand, the facts show that sago is still not consumed as a staple food and requires extensive local government expertise. Therefore, this study aims to examine the ability of local governments to produce sago based on local wisdom in the Meranti Islands Regency, Riau Province. This study uses a qualitative approach with data analysis techniques on the Nvivo 12 Plus software concept map analysis. Based on the research results, the ability of the Meranti Islands Regency Government has four dimensions of capability, namely: First, in the knowledge and skills dimension, the government has carried out the task with regional agencies in socializing the "One Day with Sago" program. Second, on the technical system dimension, the government already has a technical design and specifications for sago processing, focusing on developing small and medium-sized industrial centers. Third, in the Managerial System Dimension, the government has encouraged community empowerment and designated Meranti as a sago cluster area. Fourth, in the Dimension of Values, the government has made efforts to empower the community sustainably and has produced various innovations in the content of sago production.

Desa Lamokula Kabupaten Konawe Selatan merupakan salah satu sentra produksi sagu. Mitra pengolah sagu di daerah ini adalah Kelompok Usaha Bio Sagu Sejahtera, yang menjalankan usahanya sejak 10 tahun terakhir. Namun demikian, kondisi usahanya masih sangat sederhana, sehingga kualitas sagu yang dihasilkan masih rendah, pemasarannya terbatas, dan nilai jual ekonominya juga rendah. Oleh karena itu, Program Kemitraan Masyarakat (PKM) ini bertujuan untuk meningkatkan pengetahuan dan keterampilan pengolah sagu tentang upaya diversifikasi produk dari tepung sagu segar menjadi gula cair yang mengandung antioksidan dan zat besi yang tinggi, sehingga dapat meningkatkan nilai tambah dan nilai jualnya. Metode yang digunakan adalah dengan: sosialisasi kegiatan PKM pada kelompok usaha pengolah sagu, penyusunan rencana kegiatan, bimbingan teknis produksi dan manajemen usaha gula cair berbasis sagu, dan pendampingan dan pengawasan selama dan sesudah kegiatan PKM berlangsung. Hasil dari kegiatan ini menunjukkan bahwa: masyarakat pengolah sagu di lokasi ini secara umum dan mahasiswa yang terlibat dalam kegiatan telah memahami manfaat diversifikasi produk primer sagu terhadap peningkatan nilai tambah; mitra pengolah sagu lebih menyadari bahwa proses penanganan pasca panen dan pengolahan sagu yang baik akan meningkatkan kualitas produk yang dihasilkan; dan pengetahuan dan keterampilan dalam pembuatan gula cair ber-antioksidan dan mengandung zat besi tinggi dari mitra juga meningkat. Kegiatan ini masih memerlukan keberlanjutan sehingga dapat berproduksi secara komersial.

Sago is an alternative food source crop, especially in Southeast Sulawesi. From year to year, the area of sago crops tends to decrease due to conversion and limited cultivation levels. Therefore, to preserve sago, it is necessary to identify and characterize sago growing in Kendari Peninsula. This study aims to identify and describe morphologically the types of sago found in sago-producing centers in the Kendari peninsula, Southeast Sulawesi. Observations were made on the different types of sago growing at two locations of sago planting centers. Parameter measurements were carried out on stem height, bark thickness, leaf width, leaf length, stem diameter, harvest age, and production per stem. The results showed that there were four types of sago found, namely roe (Metroxylon sagu R.), runggamanu (Metroxylon rumphii M.), and barowila (Metroxylon longispinum M.) and sago rui (Metroxylon microcantum). There are differences in sago vegetative and generative growth due to differences in growing environmental conditions and local climate. In general, the dominant types of sago in both locations were sago roe (Metroxylon sagus R.) and sago runggamanu (Metroxylon rumphii M.).
