The Role of Gene Therapy in the Treatments of Type 1 Diabetes Mellitus: a review

Abstract: The main aims of this review were to understand the roles of gene therapy in the treatment and prevention of type 1 diabetes mellitus and I will discuss a brief history, approaches, vector types with the future of diabetes following clinical use. Type 1 diabetes mellitus is a metabolic condition that is identified by insufficient insulin development due to pancreatic damage to beta cells. Control, long life, and diagnosis of these metabolic disorders have become vital sources for many scientists and researcher… Show more

“…ACE2 receptors on the pulmonary endothelium serve as the main ingress point for Coronavirus. Several previous animal models have revealed a rise in ACE2 activity in the male or ovariectomized model, hinting at a sex hormone influence (Smail, 2023). Interestingly, the ACE2 receptor gene is also found on the X chromosome and has some generous causes that increase mortality and morbidity in men, such as (smoking) Usually, the smoking rate is much higher in men than in women (Gebhard et al,2020, Walter et al,2020.…”

“…Furthermore, gene therapy has been widely used to treat cancer, cardiovascular disease, infections, decreased metabolic function, lymphatic diseases, radiation-induced injuries, and post-surgical therapy. Gene therapy can also be a solution to treat diabetes mellitus, although the efficacy and safety of this therapy is still a problem [17], [18], [19].…”
