The role of doppler waveforms in the fetal main pulmonary artery in the prediction of neonatal respiratory distress syndrome

Abstract: Fetal MPA Doppler velocimetry can reliably be obtained throughout gestation. AT and AT/ET ratios of the fetal MPA Doppler waveform may help identifying fetuses at risk of developing neonatal RDS.

“…Similar to our study, Guan et al, by study on 284 healthy singleton fetuses, inferred that there is positive correlation between GA and AT, AT/ET and PSV (25). This is an expected finding because PVR normally decreases with increasing GA and AT (i.e.…”

“…It is primarily a disease of premature neonates, with an incidence and severity that are highly dependent on gestational age (GA) . As RDS is an important cause of neonatal morbidity and mortality, a number of biochemical tests have been developed to predict the risk of RDS . Some of these tests, including amniocentesis, are invasive and are associated with risks to the pregnancy.…”

A noninvasive test for predicting fetal lung maturity would be useful to minimize the need for invasive testing.…”
